I'm talking about the REAL VALENTINOS...(Bobby Womack and his brothers)...not that other group from down under who tried to steal their name. But since Bobby just got inducted as a SOLO artist, I think that may just lessen the GROUP'S chances...despite the fact that many of their original tunes were covered by both Rock and R&B acts , like THE STONES, (It's All Over Now), The J GEILS BAND (Looking For A Love), WILSON PICKETT (I Found A True Love), and NEW BIRTH ( I Can Understand It). THE VALENTINOS were HUGELY influential, but sadly, may end up standing in the shadow of their most famous member.

In addition , The Valentinos' mid '60's hit "Everybody Wants To Fall In Love" was covered by RRHOFamer Solomon Burke.

Covering a song =\= influence It's says more about Bobby as a songwriter, imho.

Bobby wasn't the only songwriter in the Valentinos. All of the brothers were writers. In fact , if you go to Wikipedia,You'll find that Cecil Womack's songwriting career also took off with "Love T.K.O.",a major hit for Teddy Pendergrass, "Your True Heart (A Shining Star)," for The O'Jays, and songs for The Dramatics, and others. Curtis Womack became 1/2 of the R&B duo, Womack and Womack , recording 6 successful albums with his wife,Linda Cooke Womack,(daughter of Sam Cooke. ) Brother Harry Womack also enjoyed a modestly successful solo career before his death Bobby's big hit "Harry Hippie" was a tribute to his fallen brother.

Yes...The Valentinos were awesome... and highly influential. They had far more hits than the Ronettes...and wrote their own material. But ,I fear that only ONE of the Womack Brothers is ALL that the Hall plans to induct...and they already did...BOBBY.

***BOBBY WOMACK: (1944-2014)***

R.I.P. Bobby. I know that if it had been up to YOU, ALL of your brothers would have been Inducted by your side into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...instead of you ALONE.

At least 3 of the original Valentinos are now gone...Cecil Womack died last year (2013) Harry "Harry Hippie" Womack died way back in 1974...and now Bobby in 2014.Only Curtis and Friendly Womack are left . All of the Classic R&B greats are quickly leaving us ...while the "Hallowed Hall" is choosing to IGNORE all of the remaining ones.

An era is truly coming to an end.
