Saw this band at The Hangout. Played about 1330, very hot then. Toots is a short, stocky/muscular man, still looks to be in great shape at 65 or whatever he is. Played acoustic guitar on about half the songs. Crowd ate it up.

It seems that the first record from the Maytals, I'll Never Grow Old, was released in 1964. So Toots and the Maytals should be listed as eligible in 1989 (1990 ceremony).

Without any doubt. Toots should be in. Anyway it is hof selected by a few only with their own tastes and a money maker and American biases

Just read that Toots Hibbert passed away. Terrible loss. He should've been in the Hall of Fame a LONG time ago.

Toots Hibbert has passed out of this world; a victim of COVID-19.

I was fortunate to see Toots perform a number of times, the last time being in 2012 when he played High Sierra Music Festival. Then he was 69; and he expended more energy on that stage for 90 minutes than any musician a third his age did. People who I know have seen him in more recent years have been equally awestruck by his energy level in his seventies.

But at last this musical hurricane of a man has blown on to the next world.

Rest In Power Toots. Do the Reggay with the angels!

The treatment of the Matals by the powers at the Hall is absolutely baffling. They aren't even on the list of artIsts that were considered during one of the nominating meetings. That's just inconceivable to me!

Next thing you know, they'll nominate Toots & The Maytals before they nominate Kool & The Gang and The Commodores.

Toots & The Maytals have a better chance than War, The Meters, and Rufus.

He was 70 when I saw him & band at The Hangout back in 13. Was hot as f*ck that day on the beach. So glad I got to see them. Rastafari and Allmighty Jah!

The fact that Toots and the Maytals have not been inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame is shameful.
The contributions to popular music from this man and his band are staggeringly huge, and considering the inductees this year. I can't think of anything than the fact this is an Afrocarribean band, from Jamaica and (basically) racism are keeping them out. I am literally ashamed of the Hall of Fame.

This man was responsible for the genre we call Reggae, along with a few others. Without Toots you would have no idea who Bob Marley was.
