31 comments so far (post your own)Jay And The Americans should have their separate page, because Black (whose real first name is David actually) had a separate, although almost non-existent solo career. Posted by Philip on Monday, 01/6/2014 @ 13:48pm |
Unlikely that Jay Black will get in RRHOF. It is very apparent that TALENT is not a prerequisite for induction. I agree the Jay has one of the greatest voices of the Rock'n'Roll era, but he is basically unknown to the current voters. I cant believe that Jay or Johnny Maestro aren't in. Also neglected are the Moody Blues. Again I refer to the talent issue. All of these exceeded the talents of those they are judged against. Perhaps their abilities are beyond comparison, and would make many of the others look bad. Posted by Larry on Wednesday, 12/31/2014 @ 19:31pm |
Jay black has one of the greatest voices of that era. He could sing anything. He made Jay and the Ameicans. The others didn't and they are in there. Please give him the recognition he deserves!! Posted by dianne on Monday, 04/20/2015 @ 20:50pm |
Jay Black is a product from an era of time where singers could not only just sing.. BUT SANG! As a kid growing up in Motown during the 50's and 60's Posted by Larry on Friday, 05/31/2019 @ 20:30pm |
Jay Black was/is an incredible voice, deserving of the Hall. So was Johnny Maestro. The hall should recognize pure rock singing talent as well as the other criteria they look for. Glad for the Moody Blues..c'mon Doobies. Posted by albert on Friday, 08/2/2019 @ 14:25pm |
Cannot believe Johnny maestro and J Black have never been inducted into the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame Posted by Debbe on Wednesday, 10/30/2019 @ 16:10pm |
Loved Jay Black. Fantastic voice. Posted by Julie on Friday, 05/22/2020 @ 19:03pm |
Jay Black has the most amazing smooth as silk voice. His voice I have to say Posted by Lynn Kim on Saturday, 08/1/2020 @ 03:46am |
Jay Black definitely deserves to be in the R&RHoF. One of the greatest vocalists of the '60s, he still can deliver a great performance. The voters have failed their due diligence if they don't listen his outstanding performances. Posted by Robert Brown on Monday, 10/5/2020 @ 13:47pm |
Jay Black has one of the strongest most amazing voices in musical history! You gotta see the YouTube videos of him doing Cara Mia IN HIS 60s and 70s!!!! He still has an amazing vocal range and unbelievable strong voice!!!! He should have been in the R&R HOF years ago!!! Posted by Jim Pilati on Tuesday, 05/18/2021 @ 21:52pm |
The rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame is not legitimate without Jay black and Jay and The Americans . Jay Black is the greatest singer in the history of this music. Also more chart records than most !!!! Posted by Don Frankel on Tuesday, 06/8/2021 @ 20:41pm |
It is an absolute crime that Jay Black and Johnny Maestro have not yet been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! How two of the greatest voices in rock history have been overlooked and ignored for so long is a travesty and there is no excuse for it. Wake up, judging committee! Do you even know what real music is or who the real pioneers of rock and roll were? Posted by Linn Carpenter on Tuesday, 06/8/2021 @ 21:15pm |
As an Englishman always liked David Whitfield's version of Cara Mia Posted by ALAN Chew on Saturday, 07/17/2021 @ 06:54am |
Jay Black had a career problem. Very BAD manager!!!! Posted by Mike Klein on Friday, 08/20/2021 @ 18:54pm |
to say this GENUIS is not in the hall of fame is a joke....... Posted by Michael Castellano on Tuesday, 09/7/2021 @ 20:59pm |
Jay Black should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has the best voice rock and roll has ever heard! There have been some real talented singers like Roy Orbison, Crossover artist Patsy cline, the Everly Brothers and a few others, Jay Black has them all beat, hands down! I think that it's a crying shame that he has been passed over all of these years! Please re-examine yourselves because you're missing the boat! Jay Black has the greatest voice in music history! When I see some of the ridiculous choices of inductees over the past few years, it makes me realize more and more what a crime it is that Jay isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I think these 20-something year old judges have lost sight of, or maybe they really never knew, what and who that museum is meant to honor. Posted by Linn Carpenter on Friday, 10/15/2021 @ 12:04pm |
Jay Black-wow- I had the pleasure of seeing Jay at many venues, A/C, Valley Forge, Phila, MT Pocono. i never heard such a powerfull voice. He was one of the funniest guys I ever heard. His voice and humor will forever be missed, but , will live on the minds and hearts of all those who were lucky enough to have seen him.RIP Jay. Posted by Russ Rice on Sunday, 10/24/2021 @ 12:47pm |

Jay Black cannot be compared to any other singer. By far the best voice in pop history. The Rock and Roll hall of fame is missing a super talent like Jay Black. He must be inducted! Posted by Gerard Bruker on Tuesday, 12/14/2021 @ 15:26pm |
For the people who. One who is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Please listen to Jay Black singing Cara Mia. The high notrange in his voice will tell you why he is know as The Voice. Posted by Donna DeWitt on Wednesday, 12/15/2021 @ 11:00am |
Please honor Jay Black ( David Blatt ) of Jay and the Americans. It is long over due. This man could SING. Oozed talent. Could still hit the notes and sing well into his 70's. Watch him on you tube do Cara Mia then and again on PBS at age 62... You will understand why he so richly deserves to be honored. Rest in Peace Jay. Love you always and ever. Followed him from the get go...There will never be another like Jay Black....... Posted by Carolyn Toman on Saturday, 01/8/2022 @ 18:48pm |
For the life of me I don't understand why Jay Black (David Blatt) was never inducted into the Hall of Fame. I grew up listening to Jay and the Americans; appreciated them more in later years! Such a dynamic voice, smooth/powerful! I recently heard a song performed by this group entitled Vi iz dus geseleh (Where is the Village); brought tears to my eyes! Is there anyway we can start a petition for people to sign to indoctrinate J block in the Hall of Fame. God be with your family! Posted by Anna Dimovitz on Thursday, 04/21/2022 @ 00:21am |

Prior to my previous comment, I believe it's a dishonor not to induct ay Black (David Blatt) into the Hall of Fame. His voice was extraordinary; beautifully Displayed throughout the years; wonderful breath control, smooth/rich. What criteria didn't he meet? One of the most talented singers along with Roy Orbison, Neil Sedaka, to name a few! Posted by Anna Dimovitz on Thursday, 04/21/2022 @ 00:53am |
My late husband actually cried tears from his sick bed when he watched Jay Black sing Cara Mia on the PBS special. We replayed it over and over, each time seemed better than the last. My husband was from an older generation and had never heard of Jay Black and was stunned at his voice and range ...having been a singer himself in his younger days, was in awe of that "voice". I still cry tears listening to him sing Cara Mia and My Prayer. Why he has not already been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond me. Without a doubt, if Jay Black had been born into today's music world, he would have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame -- his beautiful voice supersedes all the ages. Posted by Joyce Rae Stricklen on Monday, 05/30/2022 @ 17:18pm |
The probable reason Jay Black and the Americans has not been inducted in the Hall of Fame is because I heard the judges wants you to kiss their butt. They probably contacted him and I can hear him giving them words they didn't want to hear!!! Posted by Billy Smith on Wednesday, 07/20/2022 @ 17:06pm |

Jay Black has been singing a long time. Beautiful voice! Are these judges deaf all these years? Same comment for Johnny Maestro too! These men sung their hearts and their guts out and you just overlooked them! Just disgusting!!! Posted by Donna on Monday, 09/11/2023 @ 15:32pm |
