Having musical talent was not the Osmond's issue as being labeled "Bubble Gum". It was their goody image and the fact that they are devout Mormons. Marie Osmond turned down
Olivia_Newton-John's role in Grease as Sandy because Marie's mother said the role was too suggestive and not one of morality. Think of how different things would have been if Marie took that role? The Osmond's can sing, dance, and play every musical instrument on the planet...well! I suggest to get a real idea of their diversity, listen to their album "The Plan". The can, and do rock hard...very hard.

If Marie Osmond had taken the role of Sandy in "Grease," the songs "Hopelessly Devoted To You" and "You're The One That I Want" would not have been in the movie or existed at all, because both were written by Olivia Newton-John's producer, John Farrar.

The Osmonds are still performing. Donny and Marie were to play 6 weeks at the Flamingo in Vegas and that was 8 years ago. They have been voted best show in Vegas 4 years in a row. There are still 3 of the original brothers performing(Alan and Wayne had to retire for medical reasons) How many groups in the HOF are still performing? They have recorded over 200 albums and Donny has recorded 60 himself. 4 of them have been on Broadway. Come on this family is more talented than half of the people inducted.

Hey, Vince, I think this is the video you have been searching for:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m26ci6ZlpJQ

It shows the Osmonds playing a bunch of instruments while performing a song that I think i called "I Got The Music In Me". I hope this helps.

For those who dislike The OSMONDS be VERY honest with yourself and please be cool while reading my entire comment. The Osmonds are a family group that are able to arrange a variety of acts such as The Osmond Brothers, The Osmonds, Donny Osmond, Donny & Marie, Marie Osmond & Jimmy Osmond. But it ALL falls back the ORIGIAL Osmonds (Alan, Wayne, Merrill & Jay) who opened the door for everyone. Here is who deserves to be awarded into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: "THE OSMONDS - Alan, Wayne, Merrill Jay & Donny. These 5 brothers recorded all of the major rock albums. Here are just a few examples as to why they should be. AGAIN, be HONEST with yourself: Did you know The OSMONDS are in the top 500 Most Influential Rock Albums? It's true! The Osmonds came in #66 for their album "CRAZY HORSES". Wayne Osmond was compared to Led-Zeppelins "Jimmy Page", Jay Osmond was voted as one of the top rock drummers in the industry, Mike Curb, one of the TOP Producers, Label Presidents, etc recently said that "Merrill Osmond has the best rock voice in the industry!". MEGADEATH recorded Crazy Horses along with several other big rock bands and Ozzy Ozbourne is quoted as saying that 'CRAZY HORSES"is his favorite rock song of all time. Did you know that THE OSMONDS performed on stage with Led-Zeppelin in England? THE OSMONDS seriously wanted to be ROCK Artist but the record label was out for the MONEY. Because of Donny's "pretty boy" looks the record label gave Donny songs like"Puppy Love", etc.. etc.. which destroyed THE OSMONDS chances at becoming serious Rockers. THE OSMONDS seriously considered changing their name, wear heavy makeup,etc..so that people would give them a serious chance. thank about it, when some you hear the name OSMOND you automatically think "oh brother' and change the channel without giving the song a chance. True? (this was before KISS became popular). THE OSMONDS were ahead of their time with many unique stunts such as flying across the audience on a wire, long before Bon Jovi did it to outrageous use of pyrotechnics both on stage and above the audience! THE OSMONDS have sold well over 100 Million records, have been awarded 60 Gold and Platinum record awards, Peoples Choice Awards and countless other awards. In 2008 THE OSMONDS toured the world to sold out arenas celebrating their 50th year in show business. THE OSMONDS (Merrill & Jay Osmond) recently released a new rock album proving that after after 60 years, your never to old to rock roll!! These have been just a few examples to prove that if you REALLY are OPEN MINDED and you REALLY are a TRUE FAN of music, YOU WILL give THE OSMONDS A REAL CHANCE. FYI- THE OSMONDS are becoming so popular again that a NEW radio show was released in 2017 THE OSMOND HOUR became a massive hit on the WBNR-DB RADIO NETWORK and can be heard OnLine Around The World OnLine at myBNR.com ** Since the release of THE OSMOND HOUR, by popular demand, a BEATLES Show was removed and replaced with a SECOND OSMOND SHOW called "THE OSMONDS-FULL CIRCLE". Both OSMOND Shows can be heard on the WBNR-DB RADIO NETWORK and OnLine at myBNR. Both shows normally run the last week of the month, sometimes twice a day. To purchase "Vintage" go to merrillosmond.com and don't forget to tune in to myBNR.com to catch THE OSMOND SHOWS! If you really open you heart and listen, you just might hear a really cool band1

Osmonds are zero chance for nomination, etc.

Jay Osmond was chosen to be in the top ten drummers of the decade (1970’s) (imagine the drummers of that decade and realize this industry acknowledgment was huge)
John Bonham was a fan and brought his family to see them play. Wayne Osmond can play practically every instrument. Merrill still sounds great, his voice as strong as ever. They were the “real deal”
They were kept bound by their bubble gum image which was their fathers choice. Gifted, Uber talented...never got the shot they deserved

Posted by Julie on Thursday, 01/31/2019 @ 15:27pm

That's cool. I didn't know that about John Bonham. What I remember as a kid, was that there was an ongoing sort of competition with the Osmond Brothers and the Jackson 5, as who was the best. They were both churning out the hits in the early 70's. I enjoyed both as Michael and Donny were similar in age to myself, they were a little older. As time went on the Jackson 5 took over in popularity, especially when the "Dancing Machine" album came out, and Michael started pulling off these cutting edge dance moves.

Another family band of significance, maybe flew under the radar a little bit, was The Cowsills. They had some great hits and were very talented as well.

I nominate the Osmonds. They have been playing great rock & roll music for more than 50 years. They have sold over 100,000,000 albums and have millions of fans. They wrote their own music and performed all their instruments. There will never be a group of brothers ( and sister) with this level of talent again.

Do what is right! Induct the Osmonds!!!

Being a singer and a musician myself and recorded an album. I have always admired the osmonds for thier talent and integrity. 50 almost 60 years in the business they deserve every honor and to be in the rock and roll hall of fame Thier album The Plan one of the best and ahead of it's time.

Posted by Jim BROWN on Thursday, 02/4/2021 @ 04:16am

I agree. It is about time that the Osmonds are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have sold over 100 Million albums! They write their own music, play multiple instruments and have respect from other rockers including Ozzy and John Bingham! Crazy horses was before it's time as was the album. The Plan was almost entirely written by them and a fantastic 'concept' album. Many more reasons,
...

The Osmonds, over 50 years of entertainment all over the world. A hundred million records sold. Appeal to all kinds of people. Talent in abundance from instrumental, vocals, to dance. No fear to explore and be successful in various genre of music styles, ie: rock, pop, country, gospel. A clean image in a questionable culture is something to be both admired and applauded. The Osmonds should be in the Rockin Roll Hall of Fame.

Please put the Osmonds in the rock and roll hall of fame. They were just as talented, if not more so then the jackson 5 were. They deserve there place in the hall of fame. They've been in the business for five decades, a lot longer than most of us were even born, so please give them there rightful place.

The Osmonds (Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, and Donny) will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I've
been to 22 of their concerts and they are Rockers, play there own instruments, have written many of their own songs, Jay choreographed their dance moves and they have the best harmonies in the business. If this doesn't get them in they celebrated 50 years in the music business, have a star at The Hollywood Walk of Fame and Donny is still going strong in Vegas. He is also getting ready to release a new album. I would say drop the mike but it's far from being over.

Robin, it will be a very cold day in Hell when The Osmonds are inducted into the Hall. Very, very cold.

More talented than the Jacksons?? Some of you are in this comment section reaching. Yes, the Osmonds were a talented musical family, but do not downplay The Jacksons. FYI, Michael and his brothers were already made their debut in Japan before the 80s.

Posted by Jorday Fleming on Monday, 12/27/2021 @ 00:13am

It's a shame how the HOF have snubbed the Osmonds. They have sold over 100 million records and some of their albums are harder rock than many who have been inducted. C'mon, time to give them the respect they've earned!

Posted by Donna Bristow on Sunday, 01/23/2022 @ 20:52pm

Watch videos of the Osmond Brothers playing their lesser known rocking songs. Alan and Wayne are extremely talented guitarists. Jay is a fantastic drummer. They are all multi-talented. People who dismiss them because of their personal lives are being completely judgmental and blind to the true gifts of these great musicians.

Posted by Leigh Carlson on Monday, 02/28/2022 @ 20:35pm

The Osmonfs should definitely be inducted into the rock and roll Hall of Fame....all of the hem are talented musicians that deserve that honor....50+years in the business you all need to go back and have a listen to all their albums. Way ahead of their time. And way over due..Really Joan Jett made it in there before the Osmonds. That says something right there. But look how long it took Rush to get in...They will always be in our Hall of Fame as fans

THE OSMONDS were a group for over 60 years, sold Over 100 Million Records, Received 50 Gold and Platinum Record Awards. For years rumors had it that Berry Gordy turned down "One Bad Apple." This is not true. According to numerous people who personally knew songwriter George Jackson (No relation to The Jackson 5) who was an Official Staff Songwriter for Rick Hall Owner/Producer at FAME STUDIOS, Rick Hall instructed George Jackson to write a song for THE OSMONDS that sounded similar to The Jackson 5's song "ABC". Curb Records Owner/President and former President for MGM confirmed that One Bad Apple was indeed written for THE OSMONDS. Rick Hall's son, Rodney, Bass Player on One Bad Apple, (and friend of George Jackson), Bob Wray and other's all confirmed that "ONE BAD APPLE" was written exclusively for THE OSMONDS. Joe Jackson, Father of The Jackson 5 used to make his son's watch THE OSMONDS when they were little boy's on The Andy Williams TV Show in the 1960's to learn how to sing harmony. The Jackson 5 and THE OSMONDS were friends growing up and Actually shared an entire floor in England where they played football in the large hotel hall way breaking a chandelier or two along the way. The Jackson 5 hit the carts in 1969 on Motown Records and had 3 number 1 hits until THE OSMONDS knocked The J5 off the spot after signing with Mike Curb & MGM Records. From there on the rest is history. Ironically, the youngest member of The Osmond family, Jimmy was more the business type and assisted with Michael Jackson with his "Bad Tour" and "Bad" album (1987-1988). The Jackson 5 was iducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. THE OSMONDS went on to perform and receive several more Gold and Platinum Awards than their friends, The Jackson 5 but have yet to be nominated into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Hopefully they will be soon, they certainly deserve it.

The Osmonds deserve to be in the rock and roll hall of fame purely for their rock sound. Over the years they have had to diversify, musically, and this has aided their longevity in the business. They still have that rock edge and seeing Merrill Osmond live proves what a good rock singer and guitarist he is!

It's past time The Osmonds get this honor. They deserve this honor. They have done over 140 plus albums. In 2003, they got their star on the walk of fame.. How much longer to we haVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS INJUSTICE.It is past time that they were honored. Let's give them what is so rightly theirs. What they so rightly deserve!

I nominate the Osmonds for consideration into the Rock Hall of Fame
They have been going since the 60's to present day. I think it's time they are recognized as a group of artists!
Their dedication to the music industry is beyond amazing. Hit after hit for six decades, A family of extremely talented artists. The Osmonds as a group, Donny, Donny and Marie. Marie, Jimmy. All as solo or duet artists.
Millions of records sold worldwide !
The music they have put out over these six decades has brought such joy to millions worldwide! We as the Osmonds loyal fans think it's time they are recognised. We have loved them for nearly 60 years! Each Osmond has enriched us greatly.
Please could we get the recognition they truly deserve? It would mean so much to them, and to us fans.
Crazy horses, is in no doubt a huge hit for them followed by Hold her tight, Going home. Traffic on my mind, One way ticket to anywhere. These and many more are all rock hits! They are not bubble-gum pop!
They write their own music, play their own instruments, hugely talented in every aspect.
We know as their fans their worth!
It's now time that they are recognized for that worth.
Time is moving on for each Osmond, they are not getting any younger. Alan the eldest is 72! We as the fans are not getting any younger either, we would like to see them all recognised before it's too late.
I am not going to say why haven't you done this already? Rather please make things right for them now, whilst there is still time.
Please Google them on YouTube especially look at the recording of The Plan album. I hope you hear and see what we see. This is Rock music at its finest.
I will email you every day if I have to!
To make the point that The Osmonds as a group or solo artists should be included in the Rock Hall of Fame.
Thank you for your kind consideration in this matter. I hope you will see the need to do this for them and for us.
Yours Sincerely,
Trudy Appleby.

Fan for over 60 years.

In my opinion not only do the Osmonds belong in the Hall of Fame there are so many people who are overlooked by the politics from the Rolling Stone people in my opinion there are people who should not be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but that's my opinion

The Osmonds should be in the HOF but will not be because of their lifestyle. Their christian values, lack of drug and alcohol use, not in trouble with the law will prevent them from being selected.

Posted by Sherman on Tuesday, 10/4/2022 @ 15:48pm

You should put them in. They all deserve it while they are all alive to attend the induction! Shame on you for not putting them in before the Jackson Five! I think it's a race thing. If they were a family of color they would have been in long ago. The Jackson Five studied how the Osmonds performed!

Posted by Michele Crackel on Wednesday, 10/19/2022 @ 01:12am

The Jackson 5 were soooo much better than The Osmonds.

Posted by Paul in KY on Thursday, 10/20/2022 @ 05:40am

The Osmonds are a very diverse group. They played their own instruments, wrote their own songs and their harmonies were phenomenal!
They have been in the music business over 60 years, and a few are still performing and recording today.
They are more than qualified for the Rock and Roll hall of fame..
Let's give them the recognition they so deserve!!

Posted by Paula Booth on Wednesday, 11/16/2022 @ 20:41pm

Say what you will about this group, everybody can make jokes, but other than artists like The Rolling Stones or McCartney, I'd like to see what any of the garbage out there today will be here in 50 years. Yup, none of them. Osmonds rule.

Posted by Nancy on Tuesday, 01/3/2023 @ 20:20pm

Wow I would really like to believe that we are all beyond prejudiced thinking and type casting people. The Osmond's wanted to create good rock and roll music and I believe that they did that They were ahead of their times. You should induct them intothe rock and roll Hall of Fame because of their incredible talents and all the gold and platinum albums they sold. They sold all those albums for a reason...TALENT

Osmonds deserve this honor. They sold millions of albums, all were talented singers, musicians and performers and wrote music as well. Their sheer musical talent cannot be understated and they still drew crowds during their 50th anniversary tour. Please consider them! Their hits Yo-Yo, Crazy Horses, One Bad Apple, were BIG for the 1970's. They had a huge impact on that generation of radio listeners, concertgoers and record buyers!

Though they started in the late 50's as a barbershop quartet, seen as Bubblegum in the early 70's, sing acapella, turned to Country in the 80's. They are talented musicians and songwriters. The Osmonds are are true entertainers. They play a total of 27 instruments. The drummer, Jay, was considered one of the top drummers. In the early to mid-70s, they wrote & played harder rock. They earned the respect of Led Zepplin, who invited the Osmonds on stage to perform with them at Earle's Court. Ringo Starr disrespected the band in the press and Paul McCartney rebuttaled with his respect for the band. After years passed, Paul gave one of his signature basses to Merrill. Ozzy Osbourne has stated that Crazy Horses is one of his favorite rock songs. Within the past few years, thanks to YouTubers, people have been exposed to songs from the Crazy Horses and The Plan (rock opera similar to Beatles' White album) albums and have had their image of the Osmonds changed from Bubblegum to Rock & Roll. The Plan (rock opera similar to Beatles' White album). When the eldest brother of the group, Alan, went to promote, I believe it was, The Plan album, a rock DJ liked it and was going to air the song. He asked who the group was and said he couldn't play it. It was because of an old image. Had the DJ played the songs as a mystery band to the listeners, perhaps the band would have broken out of the Bubblegum stereotype and would have been accepted as Rock & Roll stars!

The family is also very philanthropic. The original quartet began as a way to raise money for hearing aids for their 2 older deaf brothers. Their mother started the a Osmond Foundation to assist families with deaf children. In the mid 80's, their mother realized they could help more than children than those who are deaf. The Osmond Foundation evolved to Children's Miracle Network, which helped 12 million children. Merrill serves on the board of Olive Osmond Hearing Fund, founded by his son, Justin, paying homage to his grandmother and continuing to give the gift of sound to those with hearing loss. Alan founded One Heart as a resource to help strengthen families.
