America were truly talented with many great songs I grew up on. After Dan Peek got saved by Jesus and left all the fame and fortune behind, America was snubbed by the demonically-controlled music industry. They didn't want people to come into contact with that story about a man getting saved so America it seems has been largely panned/ignored. I don't expect them to ever be in the RRHF. Too bad, they were and still are one of my favorite bands. God bless Dan Peek, he's singing in Heaven now.

America is a band that has been overlooked for many years. The American dream, 3 young boys who found success in the music business early in their career. Horse with no name kicked off their story all the way from London. An American band ! The boys had that Southwest Acoustic 3 part harmony that was just starting to blossom in the states. ]They were the sweethearts of Warner Bros. records . I see many of the other inductees they were surrounded by like The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, they even kicked Mr. Young off his # 1 Spot. This group has been around and 45 years and still tours today 100 plus dates per year. I think they deserve a spot in the Hall !

America's music is timeless. It influenced contemporary musicians and those who followed them. Their lyrics, vocal harmonies and musicianship were brilliantly woven together to tell stories of life, love and war. It is astounding America has not yet been nominated for the RRHF, and the nominating committee must correct this oversight. This truly great band deserves to be in the RRHF.

They won't nominate America until Peter, Paul, & Mary is inducted. Now that Mary has passed on to be with the Lord, there's no rush to induct Peter, Paul, & Mary. America might be a group without a chair in the nominees ballot for several years. America would have been a good inductee in the Bonnie Raitt 2000 year or when The Pretenders were inducted in 2005. Maybe, even The REM year. REM could have waited a few years. My guess America might be nominated 1 time and they will have to make the most of that chance. As we have seen with Gram Parsons, Ben E. King, Chuck Willis, and others, try to get inducted in that window. Once it closes or passes, the Nom Comm moves on to the next batch of worthy nominees. America's odds of nomination and induction probably 20%. KING

Just watched a good short news segment on America (which aired yesterday on CBS Sunday Morning ; video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE-SS-8KYjQ). It was like a 50 year-anniversary kind of thing.

I've always been a fan of the band's music, and surprisingly it is one of those groups that never crossed my mind what their RRHOF chances are. America has been eligible for over 20 years now, and I hope they still have a chance of getting in - though its unlikely. "Tin Man", "Woman Tonight" and of course "A Horse With No Name" are songs that never get old for me. Buckley and Bennell still tour (a little over 100 shows a year), and they usually come around my area, playing at the casinos. I still have yet to see them live, so I hope to get them off my "seen" bucket list.

Whether or not they will be enshrined, the duo will keep on rocking until they can't.

Great band. Great music. No clue who some of these people who just got in the Hall. Congrats to them. I am not mad at you. But, who does not know the band America? I love their album America History. One of the best albums ever. Maybe one day the committee will wake up a hear their music for what it is...….GREAT!!!

Absolute travesty that this great band is not in the HOF.

There first 8 albums all went gold, with the greatest hits instant platinum.

They had top 40 hits in 3 decades.
Between Billboard and AC charts, they've had 5 number one singles.
They won Grammy as best new artist - beating out the Eagles in their "rookie" year.

Mega talented trio from 1971-1978... in fact, showing just how good this band is:
They are one of only TWO bands in the ENTIRE history of rock music, to have 3 different members score a number one hit on a song that member wrote , sang lead vocals on it, and played guitar on it. The only other group ? Some band named the Beatles.

HOF doesn't deserve America !!!

It's about time (actually, WAY overdue) that the HOF recognizes this great rock band who's music has been enjoyed for nearly 50 years! Their songs are still being played regularly on rock and roll stations and the band continues to tour (over 100 shows per year!) One just needs to watch the video of America in the London Palladium to see just how talented they are. Put them in!

I fell in love with the band America as a 13 year old in 1972. I've seen them live over a dozen times. They are one of the most underrated, if not thee most underrated rock bands of all time. Dewey, Gerry and Dan created some of the greatest music ever written. Much of their work was never commercially well known but amazing stuff nonetheless. Listen to all of their early 70's work, especially the 7 albums that the legendary George Martin produced; the stuff of genius. It's a travesty that they are not in the RRHOF. Please right this injustice.

This band has not only given us many top 40 hits but they have traveled and played concerts for years. Still over a 100 shows a year. This is the best rounded band in history.

Hard to say anything that hasn't already been written in support of this group. I was stationed in Germany when they appeared and it was a big morale booster since they were military dependents (even though they were Air Force I believe). It is a wrong that should be corrected. They definitely stand as equals with many groups already inducted. Thanks.

It makes no sense. I look at some of the HOF lists and scratch my head??? I saw them this year before Covid shut them down. They are true professionals and so talented. You have to love the two front men with their unique voices. Beckley's 1979 Central Park live performance of "Another Try" is one of my all time favorites. I'm planning on reading Peek's book at some point.

Americana/folk music is under represented(yes I know Gordon is Canadian)This bias against radio play artists is ridiculous and inconsistent. All 3 of these great artists still getting their fair share of airplay 50 years later! Can't say that about the over valued "influential" darlings the committee always loves.

I am not sure if the band America should warrant a HOF nomination anytime soon, as there is quite a few artists that need to be going in before them. But they sure did put out hit after hit in the early to mid 70's.. they were very huge for more than a few years. They had excellent lyrics and outstanding sound quality and harmonies. They scored one or 2 more hits in the 80's, but mostly their momentum fell off in the late 70's. Incidentally, all 3 founding members are Americans, as their fathers all were in the USAF stationed in England when the 3 teens met and formed the band. 2 members have British mothers, and one guy, Dewey, was born in England, and is British-American. They are classified as an American Rock band even though the band was formed in England..

One of my favorite concerts was America opening for Sheena Easton at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. When America finished their set, the crowd was begging for more. Dewey said they had to get off the stage to bring on the headliner. After Easton finished her first song, more than half the audience left.

The R&RHoF has inducted far too many groups that many fans could not name a single song they performed. Anyone who has listened to a radio in the past 50 years knows the lyrics to at least a dozen America songs.

Few groups can claim the longevity and sustainability as America. They started out with the Grammy as best new artist in 1972 (beating out The Eagles, Harry Chaplin, and Loggins & Messina), and they would eventually get inducted into the
Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006.
Over the course of a career that has spanned over 50 years, America has produced 10 Albums that reached the Billboard top 100 (in 4 different decades) including a number 1, and 3 other albums that reached the top 10. They have scored big with 2 platinum and 3 gold albums, and the 4x platinum Greatest Hits album.

They released 47 singles in their 50 years. Of this total, 22 were top 100 singles, 7 finished that year ranked in the year's top 100. The hits included 5 number ones ( on either Billboard or AC charts), and 4 more that were top 10 hits. They've been successful all over the world, with top 20 hits spanning 1972 (Horse With No.Name ,#1), through 2007 (Chasing Rainbows, #13 AC) . They had their last number one in 1998, as "Moving Train" topped the Spain charts - 26 years after their first number one !

There are only TWO groups in Rock history to have 3 different members write, sing lead vocals, and play a string instrument on a song that reached number 1 on either the Billboard or AC charts. Dewey did it with "Horse With No Name" (Billboard) and "Tin Man" (AC); Dan with "Lonely People". and "Today's the Day" (AC); and Gerry with "Sister Golden Hair" (Billboard)

Dan Peek contributed the high harmony, lead guitar, and poignant song writing from the beginning until 1978. His departure was a big loss and forced the band to change direction as a duo while the music scene was also changing.
Their first album after Peek's departure (Silent Letter) barely missed the top 100, but the band made its "comeback" 3 years later. The album "View From the Ground" reached 51 on the Billboard Top 100 for 1982. The single "You Can Do Magic" was a Major hit, reaching #8 on the singles chart (#5 on the AC chart), and the song stayed on the charts for 20 weeks - the longest of any single by the group. The following year, "The Border" reached as high as number 33 on the Billboard charts, but topped its predecessor by hitting #4 on the AC charts.
In the following decade, Human Nature produced an international number one hit with Moving Train, and the next decade saw the critically well received album "Here and Now" reach 51 on the charts.

And they are not in the Hall of Fame ??? What a joke !!!

America definitely needs to be in the Rock & Roll of Fame. Just look at the number of albums they have sold and their influence on countless musicians. Their music stands out. Once again if Rolling Stone magazine doesn't like you you are probably not getting in.

I read through all the comments, I agree that they should already in the HoF. I looked today to see if they were finally nominated, but was saddened that they were overlooked again.I used to listen to Gerry Beckley play at the Teen center in London, when I was in 8th grade. I met Dewey the next year, and befriended his brother. They play great music and are very good people. They need to be nominated and selected soon.

I really thought that America had been inducted to the Hall of Fame.I was shocked when I found out they had not.I have seen a lot of hand-me-down bands reaching the HF but America.Unbelievable!

America should've been inducted into The Rock Roll Hall Of Fame by now . They been eligible since 1997 America The Band had been waiting 26 years to be inducted Into The Rock Roll Hall Of Fame America was inducted into the vocal Rock Roll Hall Of Fame back in 2006

America has songs that could have been huge hits... like Don't let it get you down... and jet boy blue on hideaway... not sure why they didn't go with them as singles... they picked some songs i never would... today's the day was nice and even amber cascades was ok.. but... this would have shown they could do rockier songs... also on harbor.... she's gone... that was great... and silent letter ... Foolin'... along with Alibi.. that album is the best kept secret of the groups history.. survival, might be your love and others were great... i had friends that were zeppelin and who fans and they loved that album... even went to a concert with me to see america with christopher cross and they were blown away.... and the next album they had you can do magic which wasn't written by them but they had other songs like never be lonely and inspector mills that could have been big... i was always puzzled by the single choices although i read they were concerned that they couldn't preform the songs well in concert... i have seen them a lot and every song is spot on... long live america and yes i know the rock community holds muskrat love over their head but that wasn't their song either but the way they sing it ... it was way better than the one C & T did.... and the people that helped them create here and now in the 2000s - thought they were great and that album is great.... they deserve to be in... don't get me going on who is in .... i mean i don't want to diss the people that made it but please America is better...than many....

How come Journey and The Doobie Brothers and The Moody Blues are in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and America The Band isn't in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and America has been eligible since 1997 America has four big Grammys. America has huge big hits like A Horse With No Name Ventura Highway Tin Man Sister Golden Hair You Can Do Magic Silent Letter Tall Treasures 1960 All My Life Inspector Mill and many other hits. America has been waiting to be inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for 27 years.
