As far as "underground" bands go, the VU are pretty well known.

The Velvet Underground is probably the worst band I've ever heard.

If you want a fun listen, try playing the Shirelles' "Boys" and the Velvet Underground's "Rock And Roll" back to back. I'm not saying the VU stole anything... it's just a fun side-by-side comparison.

It is a scandal that it took 5 years for the VU to be inducted and that Lou, Sterling and John Cale are still not in solo!

I could see a case for Reed being made but Cales stuff was oo experimental for the hall and Sterling's not substantial enough.

You know, it is really sad when even the most misguided and uneducated members of society still are in such a state of pitiful intellectual and moral arrogance that they fail to appreciate art

While there are many other possible examples, the five year wait for the VU pretty much encapsulates everything wrong with the RRHOF. I'm not going to point to Brian Eno's very famous (& accurate!) quote, but w/o the VU "art rock", "glam" & "punk rock" would have taken very different directions. The band- as well as Reed & Cale individually, are giants in the world of Rock Music. A five year wait was bulls--t.

Agreed. TVU are probably one of the most influential bands in rock.
