Every Breath You Take (1983) by The Police
The Flame (1988) by Cheap Trick

The songs don't sound similar, but the subject and lyrics do:

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you

Where ever you go, I'll be with you
Whatever you want, I'll give it to you

Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night, I can only see your face
I look around, but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying "Baby, baby please"

Another night slowly closes in
And I feel so lonely
Touching heat freezing on my skin
I pretend you still hold me

I'm going crazy, I'm losing sleep
I'm in too far, I'm in way too deep over you
I can't believe you're gone
You were the first, you'll be the last

Amazing musicianship. All three were perfect together. Sting's solo career has actually made these guys underrated as there's been a fall out due to his adult contemporary stuff.

His solo stuff aside... The Police were excellent and (most) of the non-singles are just as good as what was released. Very different and unique sound and they weren't afraid of change... A shame they split when they did, the latter half of the 1980s really needed some good music and they went way before their time. My choice for band of the 80s and well deserving of a 1st year induction.

Security Question:

Which letter is Springsteen's band named after?
