Masters of sophisticated vocal harmonies. They did a swinging rendition of Route 66 that nearly rivals the Nat King Cole Trio's for the cool factor. Bob Flanigan's emotional vocal solo refrain on their version of Mood Indigo is so sudden and contrasts nicely with the more understated group vocals. Even with comparatively lightweight pop tunes like Candy, the Four Freshmen could make irresistible magic.

Get ahold of the outstanding single disc compilations The Four Freshmen - Capitol Collectors Series and Great Gentlemen of Song/Spotlight on the Four Freshmen for an introduction to their repertoire. There's no overlap between the two in terms of song selections, so you'll get more for your dollar and enjoyment. These guys really knew how to make human voices sound like instruments.
