I am not sure how much influence and innovation he has had, but his work on Captain Beefheart, Van Morrison and Rolling Stones albums is just wonderful. I love his slide on Sister Morphine (My favorite Stones song). A great guitarist and hopefully he will get in one day. That's just my opinion!

Did anybody see Crossroads with Steve Vai and Ry Cooder? It was awesome.

He's got a better chance of getting in as a Sideman, though it'd be cool if he made it for Performer.

I agree; unfortunately, like I said, I think Sideman will probably be his best bet.

Ry is the consummate professional. Everything he touches is worthy of any music lovers' interest. He is an ethnomusicologist who has done so much to expose me to very important music of other cultures.
Perhaps his immense diversity has been perceived as a deficit, but his exclusion is an embarrassment to the hall of fame.
