They suck, only had a couple of good LPs thn became masters of pop music..
as for the name dropping, they should have mentioned: Exodus, Flotsam and Jetsam, Vio-lence, Testament, Heathen, Possessed, Death, Metal Blade/Brian Sagel, etc.
and every Bay Area Thrash band that gave them support and let them open for them back in the day.
Too bad they didn't return the favor.
They should have repaid Exodus, Flotsam and Jetsam, etc.
If for anything else, stealing away members.
Oh, Lars can eat a d i c k

They should have credited dave mustaine for his work on Kill 'em All (Yes he nearly wrote the whole album) and the work on ride the lightning

The hall of fame is a joke. Here is a list of hard rock/metal bands that are not in, but should be: Deep Purple, Ronnie James Dio, Judas Priest, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc. Seriously the hall has no connection to reality. Look how long it took Rush to get in, or Black Sabbath. Just unacceptable and just because Metallica is in, it really doesn't mean all that much.

Oh my god, Tough as Steel, let me get a pen and write this down, "the... hall... of... fame... is... a... joke". Did you write that yourself? Do I owe you royalties if I want to use that line? Genius analysis.

People shouldn't criticize Metallica for allegedly "selling out". They matured as musicians and ultimately became more popular.

"Metallica's 'Black Album' Hits Historic 500th Week on Billboard 200 Chart
By Keith Caulfield | September 20, 2018

Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:

— Metallica, Metallica – No. 137 — Metallica’s self-titled 1991 album (often referred to as The Black Album, due to its stark, black album cover) scores its 500th nonconsecutive week on the Billboard 200 chart. It is now one of only four albums with 500 weeks or more on the tally.

Among all albums -- since the chart began publishing on a regular weekly basis in 1956 -- Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon holds the record for the most weeks on the chart: 937. It’s followed by Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and The Wailers (539), Journey’s Greatest Hits (539) and Metallica’s Metallica (500).

Metallica’s self-titled album marked the rock band’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, when it debuted atop the list dated Aug. 31, 1991. The set spent four weeks on top, and marked the first of so far six chart-toppers for the group.

The album continues to hold the record as the biggest selling album in Nielsen Music history, with 16.83 million copies sold in the U.S. (since Nielsen began tracking data in 1991)."

Using GFW's formula:

Innovation: They were one of the first thrash metal bands.
Influence: Almost every heavy metal band since 1990 has cited Metallica as an influence.
Critical acclaim: If we ignore everything after the Black Album, their score would be much higher.
Commercial success: They've sold over 125 million records worldwide.

Final verdict: Controversies aside, Metallica was rightfully inducted into the hall of fame.
