Not covered in the bio on Zappa is the fact that
many of his albums featured the greatest big band
ever. Massive works like 'The Grand Wazoo', 'Big
Swifty', 'Waka/Jawaka', 'Music For Electric Violin
& Low Budget Orchestra', 'The Gumbo Variations',
'Little House I Used To Live In', 'Burnt Weeny
Sandwich' and 'Inca Roads' dwarf ( no pun intended ) such giants as Duke Ellington and Count
Basie. Although most of the listening public have
never heard his music, due to it's uncompromising
nature, Zappa will eventually be recognized as the
greatest contemporary composer of the second half
of the 20th Century.
