Benton's career spanned R&B of the 50's and rock and roll into the 60's. He also was one of the first artists to write his own and other artists' hits. It seems like he has been almost forgotten. I listen to Sirius XM and his music rarely is played. He's never mentioned when crossover artists are talked about and most of those are in the Hall of Fame. I hope before I die I can listen to my Benton records and see him in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Of course, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

No, Ron...you're absolutely RIGHT. Brook Benton should have been inducted DECADES ago.

His omission, and that of so many OTHER classic R&B Artists of the 50's ,60's and 70's , is a commentary on everything that's WRONG about and with the Hall.

As his longtime Attorney/Manager, I naturally concur with all of you who have expressed yourselves. I will call upon the members whom I know, to make His Induction occur.

How in the WORLD did BROOK BENTON get left out ??
50 chart hit records between 1958 and 1978. That's
20 years of hits !! Although most people today only remember "A Rainy Night In Georgia" and his duets with Dinah Washington, He had a LOT more hits than just THAT !
Just how did his sometime singing partner, Dinah Washington, get inducted, while Brook get left out in the COLD ??
And, with the RRHOF's recent posture toward ignoring R&B acts and pre 80's artists , will Brook EVER get inducted ??
He wrote numerous hit records , for himself, and artists like Nat King Cole and Clyde McPhatter...and THEY'RE both in the Hall !! But Brook gets left out ??

****WHY?****

Hits like "It's Just A Matter Of Time", "Endlessly" "Kiddio" "Baby, You've Got What It Takes", "So Many Ways", "The Boll Weevil Song" "Fool's Rush In" "Hotel Happiness","A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around and Fall In Love)" and numerous other hits, dominated radio in the Fifties and Sixties...
But, Brook is not inducted ? While artists with nowhere NEAR his hitmaking record get inducted EVERY YEAR ?
Again...WHY ??

15 Top 20 Pop Hits, seven of which reached the Top 10...

20 Top 10 R&B Hits, including 6 #1's...

...but , Brook is not inducted ? That's CRAZY !!

Click on the above link and see why this man should have been enshrined DECADES ago !!!

****Brook Benton****

People on this site are always saying that all of the important R&B acts are already inducted.
BROOK BENTON is a powerful argument proving that that statement is a flat-out LIE !!

He's more than worthy of the rock and roll hall of fame. His hit records speak for themselves and it's such a shame he's been almost forgotten. This man could sing and write songs so why is he not in it?

I think it's shameful that someone so worthy of the hall of fame has been cast by the wayside yet other artists who haven't had a fraction of his talent get chosen over him. Brook Benton was a master of his craft and for the rock and roll hall of fame to have ignored him for all these years is shameful. Hopefully they'll wise up and induct this more than worthy singer and songwriter before too long. I won't hold my breath though

His rendition of My Way puts his artistry and formidable vocal arsenal on full display; it is a tour de force, and one of my favorite songs. He exudes musical integrity to a rare degree, and easily deserves induction into the Hall.

The longer they wait, he will be forgotten eventually. Brook Benton wrote and sang hundreds of hits and nobody knows him in the United States. He was the most requested singer in the Caribbean and Britain. Today, artistes with only one or two so-called hit songs are voted in; but, the greatest singer of all time (best baritone voice and smoothest) is not! Social media came too late for R&B artistes who never broke out into the pop song culture. Sorry to see the best male singer of all times trapped!

Best male singer of all time is certainly subjective. I have my faves as well. But it is a shame that he remains overlooked. I'm not a fan of using the ME and MI categories as "veterans committee" categories, but it's what it is now, and hopefully they can put him in one of those ways. Being Previously Considered helps, but I'm not holding my breath either.. And if they do, they'll probably spend way more time gushing about his "Rainy Night In Georgia" more than his string of R&B hits from the late '50s and early '60s.
