If Babyface has a chance, it would seem to be in the Non-Performer category, since there was a time when almost every r'n'b/pop single seemed to be produced by him. It is surprising to know he had several Top ten Billboard hits as a performer in his own right, but still people like me know him as a producer.

Yes, as a non-performer probably. Although he's had an excellent recording career it's his producing/writing that made him one of the most important figures in 1990's music.
