16 comments so far (post your own)I really enjoyed Sonic Temple back in the day but had NO IDEA that the music of The Cult would change my life and that decades on, all I need is a riff from Billy's Gretsch and I'm instantly moved. Probably doesn't help that my wife's ring tone is "Fire Woman" :-) Posted by Dibble on Friday, 08/16/2013 @ 10:18am |
Nick Gilmour-this isn't your personal blog. Who cares about your kids and what you're trying to force onto their ears? The topic is about the Hall of Fame, and I'm pretty sure the 'tastes' of 7 year olds don't determine that anyway. Posted by jfon on Friday, 02/7/2014 @ 06:53am |
Saw The Cult up in Cincinatti back in December. Before they even played, I managed to drop a brand new camera on floor & break it. That put a damper on festivities. The set I saw (which was their new album) was great. Missed their 2nd set, as I had to leave knowing I had to get to camera store in morn. Posted by Paul in KY on Friday, 02/7/2014 @ 07:31am |
Saw The Cult last night in StL. I was already familiar with their hit songs and truth be told, I wasn't really that big of a fan of the music. I also knew they (mostly Ian) have worked with many big-name artists/bands. They all continue to praise The Cult to this day. One thing that was brought to my attention the other day was I didn't know Ian Astbury founded a California festival that supposedly inspired Lollapalooza. The show was alright, I mean they played the hits (except 'Rise') and I was probably one of the youngest there. Ian and the band had all their hair dyed and he still had his sound. Can't complain, it was free for me and my friend. At least I can say I saw them. Posted by Jason Voigt on Monday, 05/15/2017 @ 15:36pm |
"A Gathering Of The Tribes" - yep, I went to the Shoreline amphitheater date on that weekend in 1990. I remember sets by The Charlatans UK, The Indigo Girls, Ice-T, Iggy Pop, and Soundgarden; also a small side stage where a SF punk band called The Avengers really impressed me. If The Cult played, I don't really remember seeing them that day; but I know Ian Astbury was one of the organizers of the event. Posted by Shrek on Monday, 05/15/2017 @ 15:48pm |
That was it, Shrek! I'm glad you got to experience it during a great era (I was only 9...). I don't know if the Cult played; I just happened to see it on Wiki. Ironically, or coincidentally, Soundgarden will be playing next weekend in my neck of the woods. Posted by Jason Voigt on Monday, 05/15/2017 @ 15:52pm |
hey Jason, I did get it fixed within a few weeks. Man, that pissed me off. Was all my fault. Saw The Cult at Louder than Life last year. Got pics to prove it! Posted by Paul in KY on Thursday, 05/18/2017 @ 16:12pm |
The Cult made three (four actually, with 1 not released at the time) very important influential albums within the four years of 1985-1989 and those three albums are all different and passionately effect different kinds of people. The Cult's odd and often misunderstood career has spanned what will soon be 40 years with the quality of their last two albums unarguably as solid as any before it. The Cult's influence can be found much more than a lot of people even have a clue about. Posted by GCB on Sunday, 11/17/2019 @ 23:35pm |
SO.... The Cure is inducted in 2019 but not The Cult YET! WTF PEOPLE! Have these ninnies at the RRHF never HEARD them? OMG! Rappers funk R&B artists get inducted but not THE CULT. This is some serious shit and it need to be remedied now. It's 2020 already.... Way to over look one of the best banks E V E R !!! Posted by Connie on Sunday, 02/9/2020 @ 18:56pm |
They should most definitely be inducted, however if they are not, it makes no matter. Their music is so undeniably sensual , moving and inspiring, that anyone who is fan can agree will live on in their hearts and souls. This band is timeless and will continue to enprature many new fans to come. To The Cult: Thank you so much for your music! It is so very loved and continues to move the heart, soul and spirit ♥️ Posted by Brittney on Saturday, 07/4/2020 @ 18:24pm |
The Cult does not have a long list of hits, nor have they done anything to make themselves popular. They simply Rock !!!! From the first time I heard "Rain" from the Love album I am hooked. They are a true class act. They are beyond the likes of those gangsta rappers that get inducted . Trent do something about this ! The Cult are The Cure's equals Posted by Ton on Thursday, 05/13/2021 @ 13:59pm |
The Cult is ROCK AND ROLL. Posted by visualartsguy on Monday, 02/7/2022 @ 13:00pm |
They'll always be hall of famers to me. Posted by Serge Deuvletian on Wednesday, 03/2/2022 @ 16:55pm |
This years HOF nominees are mostly lame. The Cult draws crowds from across generations, not just oldsters going to relive memories from the 80s. Their current tour is going phenomenally. My 25 year old sone loves them as much as I do and that includes their new stuff. he likes The Stones too but only their old stuff. The Cult deserves to be nominated. . the cult without an doubt deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame my reason true story dresses all pink everyday i see an cult video made me want to wear black i wanted to be bad the music mixture of rock poetry wow Posted by Melissa on Monday, 09/5/2022 @ 09:20am |
I love the Cure, but i also love the Cult, to say that Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy don't deserve to be in the hall is a travesty. Ian has some very powerful pipes, and Billy's guitar riffs are something else. I love hearing their major songs of Love Removal machine, she sells sanctuary, and Fire Woman on 1st Wave on Sirius xm Radio, i never grow tired of them, they still sell out concerts, and they need to be in the Hall, How can a person not listen to Fire woman and not say they don't belong in the hall? Let's vote them in. Posted by George on Wednesday, 01/25/2023 @ 02:11am |
