One must always remember to pay tribute to the mother of "progressive rock"- Grace Slick.

RIP Signe Toly Anderson

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 01/30/2016 @ 17:48pm

My most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Signe Toly Anderson and Paul Kantner on their recent passings. Jefferson Airplane was a huge influence upon the music of various "progressive rock" artists, including Rush. Geddy Lee has listed, "Bless It's Pointed Little Head" as being one of his favorite albums.

104. Jefferson Airplane
Pioneers of psychedelic rock, Jefferson Airplane’s status as one of the biggest bands of the 1960s is evident by headlining status at Woodstock, the Monterey Pop Festival and Altamont. The band’s songs served as the soundtrack to the iconic Summer of Love and established Grace Slick as one of the greatest vocalists of the era.

The prog mother should also be ranked 100 places higher. Not only were Jefferson Airplane, pioneers of psychedelic rock but also the co-founders of progressive rock, along with The Moody Blues and Procol Harum.

My most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Marty Balin; he will surely be missed for his magnificent vocals and great songs. :-(

Now, Marty happens to be the fifth member of Jefferson Airplane who had recorded their debut album, to have passed away. Sadly, as far as Jefferson Airplane is concerned, only co-founders Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady are still alive. Fortunately, Grace Slick is also still with us.

Earlier this year, co-founding member of another “prog” band- The Moody Blues’ Ray Thomas had passed away.

As a result, will Jefferson Starship receive a nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame next year?

Well, what do you think?

I would like to extend my wishes for a very Happy Birthday to the “prog” mother- Grace Slick. Thank you Grace for all of the great art and great music which you have created throughout your life.

Have a magnificent day!

Jefferson Starship should definitely not be inducted. They are weak sauce and not influential.
