Bring Me The Horizon is one of my most favorite bands in recent years cause of their wide and unique range of versatility. They originally started off as a Deathcore band with some elements of grindcore and emo; but as their sound developed, the band started to take influences from prog, post-rock, dub-step, and electronica. When it comes to making heavy music, BMTH are classified as metalcore like Killswitch Engage and Bullet For My Valentine.

They even dappled a lot of forms; nu/alternative metal, alternative rock, pop rock, electronic rock, hard rock, heavy metal, post-hardcore, pop, melodic metalcore, electronicore, screamo, hardcore punk, technical metal. These guys always attempted to expand and change every time when they make music for each album. The riffs from Count Your Blessings (first album) are thunderous as Norma Jean (another metal core band) with wicked, sludgy doom metal-like moments and lots of breakdowns.

Creatively, critically and commercially, BMTH became even more successful when they started to adopt a more eclectic style. Their second album Suicide Season is a very heavy and crushing yet fun album to listen. As the years went by, the band rejected their first album and considered the second as their “Year Zero”

Their third - and my most favorite effort from them - There Is a Hell incorporated elements of electronica, classical music and pop music into their metalcore style, which marked a complete departure of their deathcore roots. The production of that album was ambitious; they used a full choir, a synthesised orchestra and weird-glitched out vocals with toned-down breakdowns and quiet atmospheric passages in song breaks. I love that album so much, I really want them to go on a Tool-like approach.

Their fourth album Sempiternal was filled with post-rock influences like Pelican and This Will Destroy You with some elements of pop. Recently, the band kept branches themselves out by mixing Alt/Nu Metal with pop music. The release of That’s the Spirit and now Amo are their newest turning point for the band.

Sound the Rock Hall induct them once they become eligible at some point? It’s a yes for me; with their uniqueness, innovations, and a great track-record critical acclaim, these dudes deserve to have that kind of reward. But it’ll take some time to see acts cite them as an influence musically.

Love their song 'True Friends'. Have seen them twice. Great sets both times.

Nice writeup, Dude!

Found a good BMTH-related interview.

Bring Me The Horizon Have Conquered Rock, Now They Want To Take On Pop

“Some bands come through in their scene with hopes to be just like their idols: the next Green Day, the next Metallica, the next Nirvana. Given the way they’ve carried themselves the past few years, it’s clear Bring Me the Horizon have a slightly different vision — they want to be the next Madonna.”

“No, they’re not doing nude photoshoots or making out with Britney Spears. Think more the stylistic progression: Much like Madge, BMTH have spent the last decade reinventing, recalibrating, and redefining themselves.”

“It’s taken them from MySpace heroes to metalcore hopefuls to arena fillers — and not many have made that leap from profile song to number-one album and lived to tell the tale.”

“In January, the band released their sixth studio album, amo (pronounced “ah-moh,” Portugese for “I love”). This April, they will undertake their biggest Australian tour to date alongside fellow countrymen You Me At Six and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.”

“Somewhere in the middle of all that, we spoke to Jordan Fish — BMTH’s keyboardist, as well as one of their chief songwriters — about the challenges facing the band, the keys to their current success, and the decline of rock music in the mainstream.”

'Antifa' means 'Anti Fascist'. To me, nothing wrong with that on the surface. Only if you want to replace 'fascism' with Stalinistic Communism or some other totalitarian ideology does it become problematic, IMO.
