I think Kim Diehl would be a perfect person to induct Wanda Jackson.

I think that Kerry King or King Diamond, should present Metallica, not Flea.

To those who are in Cleveland for the ceremonies, I'm green with envy. Enjoy it. I wish I could be there.

For those who'll be watching in real time tonight, enjoy it. I'm envious. I unfortunately have to work a double shift tonight, and won't see it. I am taping it on my VCR, so I'll be watching it either tomorrow or Monday. Let's hope the power doesn't go out at my place tonight, or I'll be thoroughly miffed.

Dude, it is 2009...did you just reference a VCR?? :-)

I'm too poor for a DVR.

Why haven't we been told yet who will be doing the induction speech for Wanda Jackson?

Maybe they'll just do a video tribute and then call her up to the stage and that's it!

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Elvis Costello at this moment?

I'm guessing Elton John might give the speech. He's a big Elvis buff!

Elton John gave the induction speeches for The Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield, and Elvis Costello and the Attractions.

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 17:25pm have a contraption that will actually TAPE a show so you can see it later, and you say it's called a "VCR"? Boy, what will they think of next...????

Posted by Gitarzan on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 17:53pm

There's a new fangled contraption out there... I think it's called "wheel" or something like that.

Posted by Philip on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 18:23pm

I guess this this thing isn't being televised live since futurerocklegends has already commented on Little Anthony and Wanda Jackson. 30 minute delay?

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 18:33pm

Roseanne Cash inducted Wanda Jackson!

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 18:35pm

Roy, you are right. It is definitely on now. Listening to Wandas speech.

Posted by FRL on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 18:43pm

Are you able to update Wanda Jackson's page and the current inductees page right now? Add Rosanne Cash as the inductor of Wanda Jackson tonight.

This show was completely live last year. What happened this year?

Posted by Roy on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 18:48pm

DANGIT!! FUSE advertised a 9PM start time! GRRR!! Can I claim false advertising?

Posted by Philip on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 18:49pm

Only 5 of the 6 members of Little Anthony & The Imperials attended and performed at the Rock Hall, and there was no mention of the 6th member. Which member was not there and why?

"There's a new fangled contraption out there... I think it's called "wheel" or something like that."- Philip

Is that those black round things that go flat and cost way too much to replace? Someone needs to make those things so they don't wear out...!!!!

Well, the ceremony has ended. Once again, my congratulations to the newer inductees.

Now that 2009 is out of the way, we can know begin the process of lobbying and convincing the RRHOF Nominations committee to induct viable artists of worth for the Class of 2010. Hearing the rumors of special occasions the Hall of Fame are planning throughout the rest of this year, I am of the idea that there may yet be more inductees than the 5-6 we have seen in recent years.

At this stage, I will focus the attention on a projected five inductees in the performers category. Let it be known that my five choices for Class of 2010 inductees are the same artists I had incorrectly predicted would be inducted this year in the Class of 2009.

The five I see as Class of 2010 inductees are Peter Gabriel, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Donna Summer, Chic, and The Eurythmics. And, on a related note, I beleive there will be a format of inducting not only just Peter Gabriel, but also Genesis as a band in and of itself; I would include as well Steve Hackett and Tony Banks in their individual ventures. With respect to the Eurythmics, I do realize that some would rather wait to induct Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart on their own accomplishments. Yet, I tend to think why wait until that time? Individually they were quite good: together, they were arguably the best in their genre of British synth-pop.

Now, I am aware that a great deal of fellow posters are rather vociferous in their opinions regarding these potential inductees. This is notably the case in our lengthy discussions regarding Peter Gabriel. However, it has now been confirmed that last September, the RRHOF Nominating Committee did indeed have a lengthy discussion regarding Gabriel/Hackett/Banks/Genesis, along with other like minded artists. Our discussions regarding these artists have prompted the leading figures of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to discuss these artists seriously.

By discussing these potential inductees now, it greatly enhances the likelyhood of these artists being considered for induction before the end of this year. Beleive me, one of the five potential inductees will certainly be inducted in the Class of 2010. I am of the beleif that it will be Peter Gabriel; yet others have different opinions. In any case, the lobbying has begun!

Ready for the pummeling of my opinions to commence,

Lax - let me start. You have absol;utely no clue of what the HoF committee is thinking. And if by chance you do, give us something more to go on that you rants. If you cannot, then just give your opinions on the artists and be done with it.

Posted by Dameon on Sunday, 04.5.09 @ 19:14pm

Good to know that I can be out of posting for a whole two months and still be riddled with a vociferous response.

Dameon, the five choices of artists I picked for the RRRHOF Class of 2010 are not only the initial picks for induction I had for 2009; they are also my personal selections for the five artists I most want to see inducted.

In short, Chic were great disco-era artists that added their considerable weight to a funkified harder sound in the 1980s and 1990s. As is, an induction for Chic should effectively include a recognition of all forms of the works of Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, and Tony Thompson. To note, rap and hip-hop owe their building blocks to Chic.

Donna Summer is perhaps the most important dance-based singer-songwriter in her era.
The Eurythmics, as well as Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart individually, were the best synth-pop artists from Great Britian during the 1980s. On their own, Lennox is at least a top 10 greatest female rock artist; and Stewart is a fine craftsman in producing and playing multiple instruments. The unique thing about the two is that their songs and sound have not shown their age.

Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) is one of the most innovative singer-songwriters. Though he has only sparsely recorded albums since the past 30 years, at his height of creative sucesss Stevens was using his approaches to songcraft and lyrical content that were quite unique and important to interpersoanl and social concerns.

Peter Gabriel, in my opinion, is the one artist eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet not inducted that needs to be inducted. As I have mentioned before, I would include Steve Hackett and tony Banks on their individual works, and Genesis as a band in and of itself. Gabriel, though, is the one part of the Genesis tree that is deserving of induction. At the least, Peter Gabriel has been one of, I beleive, the top twenty rock-pop artists of the past forty years. In the art rock field, Gabriel and the main parts of the Genesis tree are perhaps the third most influential British prog acts: only Pink Floyd and Queen, I beleive, were more influential.

In any case, I could continue for pages upon pages on my preferred inductees for the Class of 2010. Yet, space is rather limited. I would like to hear of any responses to this comment.

Showing my art-rock credibility (if any),

Posted by Lax26 on Monday, 04.6.09 @ 20:01pm

Lax, I gotta agree with Dameon. There's serious discussion and vehemently defending a position, and then there's a point where it'd be more effective to talk to a fencepost.

*turns to fencepost*

Drop it already.

*turns back*

Well, now I feel I've accomplished something.

Posted by Philip on Monday, 04.6.09 @ 20:05pm

Lax - I have no issue with your choices. You have presented cases for all of them. Personally, I do not see any reason for Chic to be inducted. As for Donna Summer, my reasons for not wanting her in are of a personal nature. She was the billboard for everything I hated in the mid-70's; that being disco. But I cannot deny her talent. I am a big fan of Cat Stevens and the Eurythmics. And as far as Genesis is concerned; they are definitely HoF worthy. Although King Crimson and ELP were far more influential!

My issue with you is your constant blathering of special inductions and all that crap. We all hope that the HoF starts looking at Prog-Rock artist in the near future. The HoF did discuss Prog-Rock as an entity but they did not highlight Genesis in these discussions. Stop twisting words. And as for 2010 - I have no idea which way this committee will look. Hopefully Jame's induction speech will light a fire under the collective arse of the HoF and some deserving artists are inducted: The Alice Cooper Band, The Stooges and Deep Purple would be a start in the right direction
