About The Song Project, Darren wrote:
Rule change voting is now closed.

Here are the final results (let me know ASAP if there are any errors):

1. By a 13-2 vote, we will continue to have the option of posting current vote tallies before the conclusion of the vote.

2. By a 14-1 vote, we have narrowed down the number of votes in the Genre and Artist Selection votes to either 5 or 6 votes. There will be a run-off vote to determine if the number of votes will be 5 or 6 during the second genre vote.

3. The vote for the number of genre vote nominations that are allowed was tied at 8-8. To break the tie, the last vote cast is eliminated. That vote was joker's vote for 2 nominations, so by an 8-7 margin, we have changed the number of genre vote nominations to a maximum of 3.

This rule change will go into effect starting in January. If there are no objections, the Song and Album Project this month can have a maximum of 3 nominations as well, but only if there are no objections.

4. By a 14-2 vote, song released during one calendar year (for example 2017) will be eligible in January of the next calendar year (for example January 2018), regardless of whether or not one year has passed since the song's initial release, however that would be determined.

The final round of rule change voting will begin at 11 PM Central on Tuesday the 19th. This will include the previously mentioned run-off vote, as well as any other rule change votes brought forward before the deadline.

Nominations are now open for this month's genre vote, "British Invasion - Second Wave (1979-1988)".

Each voter can nominate two albums that they feel belong in this genre vote.

If you feel that an album has been nominated for this genre inappropriately, please lodge a protest and explain why the album isn't eligible. Any album that receives three protests will be disqualified from this genre vote.

There will be two days of nominations and one day of review (albums can still be nominated on the third day, but please be sure that the song you nominate is unquestionably eligible for this genre).

Nominations / review will end at 10 PM Central on Tuesday the 19th. Nominations will still be accepted until 11 PM Central on Tuesday the 19th, when voting begins.

Since 5 out of the 12 current votes were cast before we knew that James Brown and Nirvana were eligible for the tiebreaker, I think it's only fair that we extend the voting until Sunday at 10 PM / 11 PM to give these 6 voters the chance to either update their ballot or state that they don't intend to do so:

AlexVoltaire
Darrin A.
Donnie
Nicky Joe
Roy Gerald Bivins

If the updated votes / notifications haven't been received by the deadline, would anyone be opposed to including James Brown (who finished 8th in our previous rankings) in the Final Rankings tiebreaker (fyi, Nirvana finished 18th)?

Only the 10 artists that received the most points in the Final Rankings would be ranked, so James Brown would still have to finish in the top ten in the final rankings to be ranked in Round 1, if we had to do it this way.

Roy Gerald Bivins - Your ballot included Ray Charles and U2, who weren't eligible for the vote. I moved up the eligible artists in your rankings accordingly.

Also, I didn't include your vote(?) for Stevie Wonder, as it was at the bottom of the list, but ranked with (15) points, the same as Johnny Cash. You can update your rankings before the deadline if you like.

My two biggest snubs are Janis Joplin and Billy Joel who would both easily make it into my Top 15. Other high ranking snubs for me include Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, and John Lennon who would all probably make my Top 15 to 20.

Just wanted to mention another big snub: The Velvet Underground. Both Ray Charles and VU would probably be in my Top 15.

I thought about the posting of votes a day before and kinda understand why they are used - in case votes are missing and could potentially set our dates back if a problem occurs. Not a big fan of it but I get why others find it useful.
