Saw these folks rock hard at Shakey Knees Music Fest. They hit the stage right before At the Drive-In. Had heard of these guys & have a few albums of theirs.

Crowd loved the show, they played for an hour. I sure enjoyed it.

That sounds like a case AGAINST them!

Nope, Deftones is one of those bands critics love with a passion, they’re very influential, and better than most of the future eligible acts that are very likely to get in their first year (Coldplay, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, etc.)

Dude

Don't look at the critics look at what sort of things the artist are saying.

If it wasn't for this it's a given attitude about Beck I would have said no way. I still feel that if nominated he has a greater chance of not getting inducted unless there is another garbage dump and most of the nom ballots since 2000 have been garbage dumps. The only 1st year I could see getting inducted is Sheryl Crow.

Some of what artist are saying

the push ahead is getting old - especially when earlier deserving acts are not being nominated

Where are the women? After both Joan Jett and Steve Miller brought up how few women have been inducted there were several magazine and newspaper articles.

As of this year only 58 women have been inducted
33 African American
23 white
2 white and Mexican mixed

Not only sexist but racist too. Based upon RS articles white women are only good for one thing and that is offering relief for male artist.

I came across an interesting Brooklyn College article called Whiteness and Sex in the Music of Rosemary Clooney that had some good insight into why black women are perceived as r&r while white women are not.

They are getting fed up with nom com pet projects

They do not trust the system and believe that voting numbers are fudged.

Not only that but boomers are sick and tired of these crappy lists year after year.

Ask yourself why the museum has such a low visitor rate. It's because they are not putting the right people in. Who wants to see a bunch of who the f is this? and How the f did this one get inducted

@ Zuzu

There are some names in the Hall who were a critical favorite but never had a massive commercial success and they got in sooner than expected, so it could happen to Beck if he’s one of this year’s nominees. As of now, they’re mostly playing catch-up with the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s until the Gen Xers and millennials fully becomes their main parts of the demographic.

They’re not really pushing ahead of themselves too much at this point even though there are some names who will get a slam dunk induction in the next ten years like Foo Fighters and Eminem. I also think Coldplay, the White Stripes, and LP have high chances too.

I think they’re gonna be more women friendly than they were years ago starting with Janet Jackson first. I’m having a hard time seeing Kate Bush as an inductee mainly because she isn’t big in the states unless they can prove me wrong and the Nom Com might be at the point they need start picking up more mainstream female figures in order to stay revelvant.

Janet isn’t the only one I think she deserves an induction, but also Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey (even though I find her music to be terrible) another induction for Stevie Nicks and Tina Turner, and even Pat Benatar to name a few. Nearly all of them will get in alive.

As for Deftones, they actually sold millions of copies worldwide; their first three albums are platinum and the fourth one is gold. Active Rock and alternative stations do play their music, especially when the band puts out new music. But “Change (In the House of Flies) is their signature song, and they also won a Grammy too.

I am not talking about record sales holding them back. I would like to see Steve Goodman get inducted and I can see him being under the radar and getting in just like Leonard Cohen. Right now the voting body is getting completely fed up with the non com and how things are being run. There is a lot of manipulation to insure certain artist get inducted by nominating a bunch of artist are not going to get many votes

I doubt very much that Janet Jackson will ever get the votes. I have no respect for her or most of her family. I do not think she or her brothers should be in the hall. I do not see Kate Bush happening either.

You are doing the jump ahead thing. What about women artist from earlier decades that were passed over? What about early influence?

Carter Family
Mary Ford
After reading that article I think it is possible Rosemary Clooney deserves a closer look

Patsy Cline
Dottie West - look into who was jamming at the Wests
Peter Paul and Mary
Dionne Warwick
Judy Collins
Melanie
5th Dimension
Minnie Ripperton
Connie Francis
Roberta Flack
Janis Ian
Chaka Khan
Helen Ready

@ Zuzu

I’d actually love to see Dionne in the Hall; they were supposed to be an interview with her from what I’ve heard but didn’t happen. Chaka is also possible too.

Posted by The Dude on Friday, 08/3/2018 @ 15:15pm

Chaka hasn't gotten the votes and I do not see it happening unless they start nominating more of the Chicago rock and garage bands. I'd love to see her get in because I grew up only a few miles away from where she grew up. They need to back off her and Rufus for a couple of years.

Peter Paul and Mary, Patsy Cline, Judy Collins and Emmy Lou Harris are the easiest ones. I could see 5th Dimension and Melanie have a good chance. I am not sure what feelings on Dionne Warwick and Roberta Flack are.

Recently brought three albums by Chino Moreno’s side bands: Crosses, Palms and Team Sleep. You should check ‘em out if ya love Deftones but didn’t know one of the members have more than one band.

Any band that can avoid releasing a bad album like Deftones have done since 1995 while also being a major influence and still being relevant in modern music belong in the rock hall of fame
