Why isn't Evanescence on this list?
Posted by Trey on Tuesday, 07.8.08 @ 14:09pm
Because Evanescence sucks....duh!
Posted by WIll on Friday, 08.1.08 @ 17:38pm
First of all, my mistake...their first album (an EP) came out 5 years before Fallen.
Secondly, thanks for the beautifully crafted response, Will...I know I'm not supposed like more than a select group of about 5 non-indie artists, and that Evanescence is obviously not one of them. My mistake...I'll go to Pitchfork and start listening to Sufjan Stevens...then my soul will be cleansed.

I finally found a list where I honestly don't give a shit about a single artist on it.

I sure hope not. But, to be completely honest, I don't really care.

Tv on the Radio & Animal Collective are amazing bands, but even this far down the roadI can't see them making it in.

All of these acts have a chance if they keep doing what they're doing.

2028 is 18 years away, how do you know if it's going to be a good year? 2009 was a pretty good year for me, but I have no idea how 2028 is going to form itself
Posted by Keebord on Monday, 01.4.10 @ 20:00pm
oh excuse me keebord. i merely meant that there are lots of talented artists that got their start this year, and the hall is going to have a lot of good people to choose from.
jesus.

7 years into their careers, and by now, if these bands had what it took to really be something, we'd at least see a glimmer of it.
Dragonforce will be in it for the long haul, but there's no way in hell the Hall ever gives them any recognition.
Then there's the Shinedown, 3 Days Grace, Anberlyn shit. And that's what it is. Shit. Disposable, radio-friendly, lowest-common-denominator crap that's spoon fed to the masses - not because it's any good, but in the desperate hope that they won't be offended enough to change the channel. Fortunately, their 15 minutes is just about up, and in a couple years the Hot Topic kids will have jumped on the next trend.
Rodrigo y Gabriela are brilliant, but not really rock.
Kings of Leon are probably the only band on this list who might conceivably have a chance.

Well, for this class, the bands/acts I think have started out best are:
Amy Winehouse (will be surprised if she's alive 20 years from now)
Animal Collective
Beyonce - may already have sown up a spot
Jet
Kings of Leon
TV on the Radio
Except for Beyonce, none are near the Hall, but they have had early success & can hopefully build on that.

Paul - Jet? Seriously?
If you're going to rip someone off, at least rip off someone more original then AC/DC.
Don't get me wrong - there's a place for three chords, four on the floor, straight up rock. I love bands like AC/DC, the Stones, Thorogood, Chuck Berry, ZZ Top, etc. When Rock gets too pretentious, these guys are vital to bringing it back to the basics.
But at least try to make it interesting. These guys are horrible.
Posted by Ralph on Wednesday, 02.24.10 @ 09:22am
I like their album 'Get Born'. I didn't think they were AC/DC clones, Airbourne (who have a great album 'Running Wild') were the AC/DC clones (I thought).
Posted by Paul in KY on Thursday, 02.25.10 @ 07:02am
"Clones" is probably overly harsh. After all, Iggy could just as easily sue them as AC/DC could.
On the other hand, if you're going to rip someone off, those are two pretty good bands to choose (same could apply to Wolfmother in regards to Sabbath and Zeppelin).

Kings of Leon, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson & Rob Thomas will get in.
TV on the Radio and Three Days Grace maybe.

Jet do indeed have some great moments, Paul, but they don't have much in the way of critical respect. Their chances will depend on whether they can get back to the success they had in their early days. I don't think they're Hall-worthy right now but considering how low the bar will probably have been set by then it wouldn't be any skin off my back if they did get in. Three Days Grace are lowest common denominator punk to me, but they might make it in anyway. Ralph: I can't tell you anything about Anberlin except that I dug their cover of "True Faith." Kelly Clarkson has a decent shot as of now, but is there anyone on this site who's excited about that idea? Besides, she apparently criticized American Idol, which is appalling behaviour when you take into account that she'd be a cashier or a stripper or something like that if not for that show. That's a major strike against her. Great voice, but not given very good songs, which is the same thing Beyonce suffers from. She's not Hall worthy right now (though she could be if she influences some younger divas), but she's on pace to make it regardless. I've been living in a box so I know nothing about Kings of Leon; I'll go check them out, though I know they're on pace to be a lock. Amy Winehouse is sober now, so for her it's a matter of a) staying sober b) Keeping her Stateside success going and c) Developing some influence. I doubt they'd put Dave Matthews in again but you never know (though I'll put Grave Digger up against anything DMB ever recorded.) The fame of M.I.A. seems to be slipping but she's got plenty of critical kudos, so she has a good chance (the only song I know from her is "Born Free" which I did like.) DragonForce are good but they probably won't get it (which is partially their own fault considering how over-indulgent they can be with their playing.) Dizzee Rascal is one of the most respected rappers around today but he's hampered by having no Stateside success. Still, he's recently collaborated with Shakira (I know not a good thing) so that could bring him recognition. Rolling Stone also put one of his albums on one of their Albums of the Year lists, so there is that. We'll have to see where he is in 5-10 years. The Fray=elevator music. I'm not sure whether Rob Thomas currently has better chances by himself or with Matchbox Twenty.
The picture for this is very cloudy, so I suggest we reconvene in 7-10 years and see how this lot do in the meantime.

Why has nobody commenting on here other than Cloonie mentioned Arcade Fire?? Of everybody on this list they've probably got the best shot.
Posted by Tahvo Parvianen on Tuesday, 10.18.11 @ 05:40am
This is a much better year than 2031. You have 'Arcade Fire', 'TV on the Radio', 'Animal Collective', Kanye, Beyonce, and 'Kings of Leon'.
Probably will be a 1st year entrant or two from this class.
