So far, the only noteworthy band from this group is The White Stripes.

Inded- no one else from this pack has done anything remotely HOF-worthy in their contributions to music, culture or both.

50 Cent has some acclaim, but I find his work to be too dang monotonous.

I should add that in past cases, 8 years or so was more than enough time to be able to recognize an act's legacy- i.e. Beatles, Elvis, Madonna being prime examples. But, they also are big cultural forces- Britney Spears was for her time- unlike Madonna, though, age be damned- she didn't have a point of view about much of anything or push boundaries with her work. Plus, the music is just too lacking overall.

Out of this group the frontrunners would seem to be:
The White Stripes

John Mayer

My Morning Jacket

Death Cab for Cutie

not a bad induction class at all.

John MAYER? Death Cab For CUTIE? The grossly overrated My Morning Jacket? Are you serious? The former's a joke and the latter two weren't exactly at the forefront of the indie movement. I think the Stripes are the only ones with a chance.

Now, if I had my way, Les Savy Fav, The Microphones and Ted Leo would be snuck in through the back door. ;)

The Japanese group Morning Musume is missing from this list. They are only the top-selling all-female group of all time in Japan, and their first record came out in 1999.

With regard to Morning Musume: Do they rock? Sometimes, but the music is never boring. Is the music mind-bending? At least it's impressive. I don't know if it's mind-bending. Did they make a "rock move"? Their rock move is keeping a high standard of singing while having so many personnel changes over the course of the group's lifetime.

The White Stripes will get in for sure. Death Cab For Cutie deserve it and so do Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, but that's never going to happen. I would settle for John Mayer also.

OK, we all know the White Stripes are getting in. But who else? Death Cab and John Mayer are maybes right now, with Rilo Kiley and Feist needing a huge boost over the next decade. If Lil' Wayne continues to grow in stature, he might make it in.

But dear God, NO 50 CENT OR BRITNEY SPEARS. NO. NO. NO.

On another note, Christina Aguilera is growing considerably as an artist, and if she continues along this path, with her amazing voice, she might get in (Madonna got in, and Mariah Carey will probably get in...why not Xtina?).

Madonna got in because that is a no-brainer, for her musical acclaim and importance to culture/entertainment via her work. I doubt Mariah Carey will get in- she's been hugely successful, yes, but she is not revered as an *artist* nor has she been important. There have been some who got in the HOF from years back who weren't all that acclaimed (i.e. Brenda Lee), but times have changed, and it would be very surprising if the HOF committee seriously considered Carey. Same for Aguilera (at least based on what she's done up tothis point).

You're right...for nominating her, the committee definitely has NO BRAINS!!!!

RSVP: The White Stripes

Commercial power: Godsmack/John Mayer

Artistic power: Death Cab for Cutie/My Morning Jacket

A little of both: Chris Cornell

Intellectual carpet-bombers of 2024: Britney Spears/Jessica Simpson

Jekyll & Hyde award: Christina Aguilera

Star off as teeny-bop goop, get real slutty, then metamorphosize into all 3 Andrews Sisters in last video. From what I understand, next move is from Supergirl back to X-Tina mode (think I got that right). Princess, don't take the brown acid... the brown acid does this... it's artistic kryptonite, and you're looking mighty hot in classic film-mode.

shouldn't chris cornell be eligible in 2017 because he released the song "seasons" in 1992 for the soundtrack for the movie singles?

The White Stripes and thats it.
Lil Wayne and 50 Cent aren't respected by passionate hip-hop fans at all especially 50 Cent.Lil Wayne was okay-ish for a few years but after the highly disapointing "Tha Carter III" and being dumb enough to proclaim himself "the best rapper alive" his reputation is really poor.50 Cent is just well...50 Cent we all know about him.But knowing the voters one of these idiots could sneak namely lil wayne who gets good reviews from magazines like Rolling Stone.
Christina Aguilera and Britney just suck theres no other way of putting it.Jessica probably couldnt even get inducted into the pop hall of fame she's so terrible.
Buckcherry is just as crappy as the Nickelbacks of the world.
This class is pretty forgetable.

Chris Cornell should just get in for Soundgarden and possibly Audioslave. but solo career is just too much

The White Stripes and My Morning Jacket should easy make it in !!!

Posted by Jay-Jay on Wednesday, 12.30.09 @ 16:56pm

Lil Wayne, The White Stripes & John Mayer will.

Christina Aguilera could, but I don't think so.

The only one who truely deserves it as of 2010 are The White Stripes. Maybe Death Cab.and Mayer if they keep making awesome albums, but all the others are just "flashes in the pan" if you ask me.
