alec tess Yoko getting in makes sense, especially in the context of the musical influence side category because she pioneered experimental / noise music. She's a woman who is way a head of her time as far as women in rock goes with her unique brand of artsy protopunk music with her early '70s output. You wouldn't believe the number of tribute albums she has of artists, even the ones you wouldn't expect being fans of her music, cover her songs.

timothy pernell I disagree. Mariah will be the George Michael of this class because, like George, is a pop singer/songwriter. Cher is the Willie of the class because she's another music icon who people couldn't believe (no pun intended) wasn't already in. Ozzy is someone who most people aren't too worried about because he's already in with Black Sabbath. That being said, I think he's getting in and taking RATM's spot in the hard rock field.

Alec Tess, Not sure if referring to Devo or Dick Dale with that comment, but Rage is a bit different. They had internal stats that showed likely induction if they kept pushing forward. They are very relevant and listened to still, and one of the guys is on the committee himself so they were not going to throw in the towel on that act. Both Devo and Dick Dale have way less listenership even with Devo having that one hit, though they have notability enough to potentially make it via main, and Dick Dale is a too niche to ever have a realistic shot traditionally. The Smiths is a very interesting wildcard for ME being brought up, maybe as a tribute to Andy Rourke? They've always be a bit of a trouble child induction. They are insanely popular especially with young generations (they'd have third most monthly Spotify listeners of this entire "mainstream" induction list if included), they are insanely influential and might be the biggest independent label band ever, so they might legitimately be too big for a non main route induction. Issue of course is Morrissey and his action and politics which is killing any induction for the time being, and some voter might still be too old for them. I don't think a ME changes that, since Morrissey would still be inducted and invited to the ceremony and things can go off rails. Don't know if you can convince even the committee to induct him at this stage while alive so they'll remain that obvious snub. Now I brought it up before, but if they want to go the middle finger route? Individually induct Marr, Rourke and Joyce as ME and leave Morrissey locked out. They could if they wanted to

GuestG If that was the case then they would automatically put in Rage Against the Machine in 2022 when the ceremony was in Los Angeles If not DEVO then I feel like they could surprise us and put "The Smiths" in through Musical Excellence I know about Morrissey's reputation however Whitney has been inducted and Sinead has been nominated so I they can handle his BS hah Also The Smiths reunion is way more unlikely than an Oasis one (I am talking about the dinosaurs are more likely to come back than the Smiths reuniting) They were nominated twice back in 2015 and 2016 and I am sure unfortunately they didn't do very well among the main voters and I unfortunately do think they will be nominated again in the near future and probably none of the members will care to show up so I don't think it would hurt to backdoor "The Smiths" through the ME route if that is the case

Another side-category prediction: Many are predicting Dick Dale, and I think he's absolutely going to be inducted in ME/EI. He's pretty perfect for either category and he missed the period he could have possibly made it in main category. HOWEVER it will not be this year, and the reason for that is that given he's the surf rock king and pioneered it in LA they are going to want to induct him when the ceremony is held in Los Angeles as it thematically makes sense like Kool Herc in NYC. Next time the ceremony is in LA (which I think is next year) Dick Dale will be inducted 100%

Another thing to consider regarding Devo - Likely due to Disney wanting the ceremony to not drag on forever they are reducing the amount of songs allowed to perform (from 3 or more to 2 max). If they want to see ceremony time reduced as it's being made clear, it wouldn't make sense to then induct a full band, have all of them give speeches and then perform 2 songs as well for a side category. This is an aspect Disney has control over (unlike the votes for who gets inducted) and I can't see them wanting to further fill ceremony time with a far lengthier induction when those non-active artists could be over with very quickly (and with one song performance) like Link Wray last year. Think that further prevents DEVO getting ME, alongside the fact they'd legitimately could make it main route next year and would be look back on poorly if they were forced in side-category

Alec tess Yea that's what I was saying with regards to hall loyalists (your Bono's, little Stevens, your Chuck D's, your Dave Grohls) maybe being in dmb's camp with their 7th votes. The hall is doing great with Disney but the live show is where they make their money (dmb is a draw) and the fan vote, which was made to engage fans, could lose all clout if dmb wins it again and doesn't get in

alec tess I mean, Sinéad could still sneak in as a representation for this year's alternative rock field. People sometimes forget that Sinéad made history as the first female artist and first artist overall to win the very first Grammy award for best alternative music album for I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got because they only remember the "Sinéad refusing the Grammy" part of the story. Additionally, there could be a scenario where Mary J could surprisingly sneak in as the face of R&B and hip-hop instead of EB&R and Tribe (she's dubbed as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul for a reason). Mariah would be the George Michael in the class because she's the huge pop star, while Cher will be the Willie Nelson in the class as the elderly pop diva.

New prediction: Cher Foreigner Kool and the Gang Ozzy Peter Frampton A Tribe Called Quest Sinead O'Connor Oasis (if 8) Lenny Kravitz (if 9) ---- Only thing that's changed here is the Tribe and Frampton inclusions. This is gonna be a mostly 1960s-1970s class with Tribe and Sinead being the only reminders of the '80s and '90s acts. This list actually looks closest to what happened the last time Dave Matthews Band got a nod: they got outvoted by two 1970s bands, a talented rap act and a posthumous music legend and the same could happen this year. Why I suddenly changed on Lenny: despite his connections, I don't know how serious people took his nod, plus there's Frampton and I can't see people passing him up despite my initial objections. If you're a 1990s act in general, it's just not a good year. Mariah won't get in because she seems to care even less about her nod than Cher. Not a good time also if you're Mary J. or Dave Matthews or Oasis. Also not good if you're an R&B act. Kool and the Gang seems to be the designated R&B inductee. If they induct a second R&B act, it'll likely be Lenny though he's more of a rocker obviously. Mary J. has support but it's not enough for this year. If anything, the one act I had difficulty wondering if she was gonna get in or not was Mariah. Cher seems to take her spot as the designated pop diva/legend inductee this year. Ozzy will be in the Willie Nelson position. So where does that leave Mariah? In a no man's land. If it's not the pop diva box she's gotta tend with, it's the R&B box and votes will be split between her, Mary and Sade in the same way votes were split up between Janet, Chaka and Joe Tex back in 2017. And then the hip-hop box. I bet many go hard for Tribe this year than any hip-hop or hip-hop influenced act. And for the first time since 2020, there will be less than three female inductees. I seriously think they'll just induct two women this time around which is still better than one and definitely better than none. Lenny still could get in if they allow nine inductees but I have a feeling if they go to 8, Oasis is in there. ---- Again, this was not an easy list to predict and I still can't believe we're still two days away from the actual induction yet it still feel like two weeks lol My picks for artists and notable in the other categories are mostly the same though: Musical Excellence: Devo Eric B. and Rakim The Sweet Inspirations Dionne Warwick Early/musical influence Roy Brown MC5 Mary Wells Marvelettes Big Mama Thornton Ahmet Ertegun: Ashford & Simpson Ed Sullivan ---- Before you ask, no it's not because I have an obsession with being right, it's just my thought process. I admit I could be dead wrong here with a lot of these picks. We'll find out what voters eventually picked at the end. I also feel this is gonna keep changing until Sunday lmao
