Yoko getting in makes sense, especially in the context of the musical influence side category because she pioneered experimental / noise music. She's a woman who is way a head of her time as far as women in rock goes with her unique brand of artsy protopunk music with her early '70s output. You wouldn't believe the number of tribute albums she has of artists, even the ones you wouldn't expect being fans of her music, cover her songs.

I disagree. Mariah will be the George Michael of this class because, like George, is a pop singer/songwriter. Cher is the Willie of the class because she's another music icon who people couldn't believe (no pun intended) wasn't already in. Ozzy is someone who most people aren't too worried about because he's already in with Black Sabbath. That being said, I think he's getting in and taking RATM's spot in the hard rock field.

Not sure if referring to Devo or Dick Dale with that comment, but Rage is a bit different. They had internal stats that showed likely induction if they kept pushing forward. They are very relevant and listened to still, and one of the guys is on the committee himself so they were not going to throw in the towel on that act. Both Devo and Dick Dale have way less listenership even with Devo having that one hit, though they have notability enough to potentially make it via main, and Dick Dale is a too niche to ever have a realistic shot traditionally.

The Smiths is a very interesting wildcard for ME being brought up, maybe as a tribute to Andy Rourke? They've always be a bit of a trouble child induction. They are insanely popular especially with young generations (they'd have third most monthly Spotify listeners of this entire "mainstream" induction list if included), they are insanely influential and might be the biggest independent label band ever, so they might legitimately be too big for a non main route induction. Issue of course is Morrissey and his action and politics which is killing any induction for the time being, and some voter might still be too old for them. I don't think a ME changes that, since Morrissey would still be inducted and invited to the ceremony and things can go off rails. Don't know if you can convince even the committee to induct him at this stage while alive so they'll remain that obvious snub.

Now I brought it up before, but if they want to go the middle finger route? Individually induct Marr, Rourke and Joyce as ME and leave Morrissey locked out. They could if they wanted to

If not DEVO then I feel like they could surprise us and put "The Smiths" in through Musical Excellence

I know about Morrissey's reputation however Whitney has been inducted and Sinead has been nominated so I they can handle his BS hah

Also The Smiths reunion is way more unlikely than an Oasis one (I am talking about the dinosaurs are more likely to come back than the Smiths reuniting)

They were nominated twice back in 2015 and 2016 and I am sure unfortunately they didn't do very well among the main voters and I unfortunately do think they will be nominated again in the near future and probably none of the members will care to show up so I don't think it would hurt to backdoor "The Smiths" through the ME route if that is the case

This is an aspect Disney has control over (unlike the votes for who gets inducted) and I can't see them wanting to further fill ceremony time with a far lengthier induction when those non-active artists could be over with very quickly (and with one song performance) like Link Wray last year.

Think that further prevents DEVO getting ME, alongside the fact they'd legitimately could make it main route next year and would be look back on poorly if they were forced in side-category

Yea that's the one I'm talking about. The director also did American movie and tiger king and people are speculating that on it being positioned for Oscar season cause of it's festival line up (it hasn't been given proper release yet).

The hall is doing great with Disney but the live show is where they make their money (dmb is a draw) and the fan vote, which was made to engage fans, could lose all clout if dmb wins it again and doesn't get in
