UFO should get in not only for their great songs and best live album ever (Strangers in the night), but also for the HUGE influence they had on so many bands.

It's hard to name an 80s hard rock or metal band that wasn't in some way influenced by Schenker's guitar and UFO's power onstage. I'd dare say if the truth be known UFO influenced more (hard core) rock bands to follow than even Van Halen did, because back then only guys really in to hard rock even knew who UFO really were!

It will take a while for UFO to get their props for their pioneering yet undeniable influence, much like the early blues men finally got their recognition for getting it all going, UFO should be remembered for carrying the R&R torch brightly enough through the Disco/Funk late 70's for the rebirth of metal in the 80's.

Never heard of them. I wasn't into the 80s metal scene but I was sure listening to all the rock and pop throughout the whole decade (which sucked compared to the 70s).

Never heard of em either. Just another band on here hyped up by the fanboys trying to look cool. If they were so great they'd be on classic rock radio and have > 8% induction chances.

The real reason these guys aren't the Hall of Fame is simple. Their recording company Chrysalis did a horrible job of promoting and distributing their music and back in the day recording companies paid graft to the radio stations in major metropolitan listening areas (payola)for air time and Chrysalis was not willing to do it for these guys. The lyrics, arrangements and musicianship of this band was phenomenal in the late 70's and into the 80's when they were at the height of their musical power. Their influence of other groups and musicians cannot be denied and they still continue to record and perform to enthusiastic audiences long after many of their contemporaries have faded into obscurity. My suggestion to any of their detractors is to get ANY Led Zeppelin album and compare Jimmy Paige's guitar leads or solos to those on an album such as "Obsession" or "Force It" by UFO with Michael Shenker on his Gibson flying V and get ready for a very rude awakening!

To those people commenting that they never heard of "UFO" my only question to them is simply this. Were you living in a hole somewhere out in the desert without communication to the outside world or stranded on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean minus a radio back in the seventies and eighties? Gee, I'm sorry perhaps you were all ABBA fans and just haven't a clue what real rock and roll music is supposed to sound like!

UFO .....Schenker, Moog, Way, Parker, then Raymond and Chapman...simply the best.
Phenomenon, Force It, No Heavy Petting, Lights Out, Obsession and Srangers in the Night. These Albums should be in Every Rockers Collection.

UFO have influenced numerous bands such as, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Dio, Testament, Overkill, Iced Earth, the Offspring, Anvil, Saxon, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins, Telsa, Dokken, Gun, Monster Magnet, Voivod, Bigelf, and Babylon A.D.

Two of the bands I've mentioned are in the HOF, and I could see a lot of 70's and 80's hard rock/metal bands vote for them. We just need a few more to get in until we get enough voters to induct UFO.

Come on man! There are way shittier people in the hall of fame than UFO! Phil Moog belongs in there if some of the other idiots that weren't half as good are in there!

And another good reason why UFO should get inducted into the HOF is one of their albums was produced George Martin.

There impact on Classic Rock and Classic Metal goes way beyond their collective album sales. UFO has influenced a large number of bands, that include present Hall of Fame members. Vote them in the Hall now!

Their, not there! Sorry. Vote UFO into the Hall of Fame!

R.I.P. Paul Chapman..

Thanks Dude, I was not aware of his passing until you mentioned it. Paul was a very dependable part of UFO, filling in for Michael Schenker when he did not show up for tour dates. And then replacing him in the band when he left for good, starting with the "No Place to Run" LP in 1980, and then the next 3 albums until 1983 when UFO officially broke up. He continued to appear in quite a few bands after that, and starting a couple, most notably with UFO bass player, Pete Way in the band Waysted, for 2 albums. Everybody tends to prefer and love the 70's UFO material with Schenker, but the 80's albums with Chapman are very good, and are a big part of the history of this extremely underrated, melodic, Hard Rock/ Metal, and well loved band.

Even if Eddie Trunk were voting, don't think he is... UFO should be a major player on the list, ask their countless influences, Def Leppard chief among them, Of course, Tesla and Iron Maiden, i'm sure Rob Halford and Judas Priest also concur. Just like Motorhead and Ted Nugent need to be, put non-musical qualifiers aside, forever!! Should not even be an issue that Nugent is a hunter and a Republican.... better than Trump for Damn sure! Sorry but it must be said, if this appears at all true in the rationale that's been said. All of Motorhead passing away, Ronnie James Dio, Ronnie Montrose, and not to mention Wishbone Ash and Blue Oyster Cult!

OH man, after sudden death of Paul Raymond, none of us quite recovered from that, Let me add in about Paul Tonka Chapman, saw the new remaster of sorts from 10 years prior, nearly, Gator Country in Florida ripping some Molly Hatchet classics, always foot stompin Southern Rock me thinks, anywho, Pete Way who's surviving Nuclear War when that breaks out, he's actually said he wanted to bring Waysted back and work with Tonka Chapman on it, Check out Eddie Trunk's amazing and all too short interview about a year or so ago with Paul.
More incentive for Phil Mogg to retire before he's Obit news... he fears that while on the road, yet Vinnie Moore said the band take the last tour a day at a time, with no real concrete plans to retire completely, ...hey, I hope and Prey that UFO in some form continues for my life time!

Damn, R.I.P. to Pete Way.. One of the most outstanding and influential Bass players of the Metal/ Hard Rock genre.. And all of the bands from the NWOBHM, and 80's Rock/Metal as well, owe a lot to Pete Way for his groundbreaking and intense style and musicianship. He contributed massively in his songwriting skills , resulting in a lot of great tunes, and for his influence on Bass players who followed, I'm sure Steve Harris will have a lot of great things to say about Pete..

so glad to see all the prattle here in UFO land. I loved Lights Out when I first heard it. Other UFO grew on me over time. I now totally love The Wild The willing and the innocent.

Deep Purple and Yes were the two bands that I thought should be in that weren't and now that they are in I advocate for other bands.

Glad Judas Priest got in... They were on my list of 13 bands that deserved in prior to The Cars. The Cars only 7 albums but they get more radio play than the bands on my list and their first two albums are near perfect.

My #1 Uncle Ted cuz why do we car who he wants for president. He gets on TV and he rocks.

Number 2 is a three way tie. FireFly and Sea of Light listen to them. Uriah Heep may not be famous enough but they are good enough...

Nazareth only 8% chance but 25 albums most of which are better then 5 of the cars albums. Jethro Tull --April Wine would also have been preferred to me or by me... Would also have preferred Iron Maiden or SaXoN

UFO was over shadowed by bands Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Aerosmith they never went commercial always under the radar listening to their lyrics i could relate to them they were the most melodic heavy metal band ever Phil Mogg just got better as he aged Michael Schenker on guitar one of the best ever Pete Way Paul Raymond and Andy Parker so good at their work i loved the music because it was deep not candy coated rock they pumped out album after album in the 70s that were all excellent and made some comeback albums decades later just a hard working blue collar band should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for their originality and effort

UFO is my favorite. I'm American, so we didn't get to experience the greatest band, when they were the greatest band. I've discovered I'm in my late 30s. They are everything good about rock. If you have a bad comment about them because you haven't heard them, make yourself a better person and listen. You only live once.

I guess I am late to this party but Seriously? R&R HoF has some effed up views on things. UFO should have been in years ago. All the Rap garbage that you people let in there and no UFO? WTF is wrong with yer ears. Classic 70's hard rock and RRHOF is kind of like the Rolling Stone magazine...irrelevant to most of us and showing no signs of competency at the helm. quit with the woke BS inductees and get back to what is was supposed to be. Kick ass R&R. Next RRHOF will induct Taylor Swift before UFO cuz they just bow down to politics and inclusive crap. It aint special if you let just anyone in but damn UFO should have been an easy in. I am still turning on the younger folks to UFO and they are like where has this been hidden for all these years. Yeah...it kicks ass.
