Just saw these guys in Vegas. I've been a fan since the early '70's after coming across an 8-track of them. Great show in Vegas, and had serveral oportunities to talk to Phil, Vinnie, Paul, Rob and Kate...just their music alone should get them in the Hall; but now knowing how nice, profile, and personible they are to their fans, is even more reason they deserve all the regonition they can get.

That's a good point about the vocals. I mean I love Robert Plant and Ian Gillan but if you can't sing that way, you shouldn't have to. That's why it's rock and roll, you get to have your own sound.

UFO is a classic british rock band same as
Zep. In fact in my opinion better! that's
right. Better singer, players and songs then
all of the so called greats but critics and
others overlooked. They got pushed into that
metal catagory like many bands do but UFO
deserves in the rock n roll hall of fame as
one of the best hard rock bands of all time!

Posted by Bela Edmond Drake on Thursday, 05.1.08 @ 14:22pm

One of the best live bands- there is no need for fireworks or videos. Phil Mogg has written some of the best rock ballets. Just an all out rock band

Without a doubt, one of the most under appreciated rock bands of all time!! (rush is the other) Seen these guys in Akron last month and i knew it was gonna be good, but ........, these guys are definatly the real deal and i'll see them again if i have to fly to England. Not nearly as good as Modonna though. (what a friggin joke that is)

Posted by Marc on Wednesday, 05.14.08 @ 16:12pm

Ballets, Joe? Ballads, I hope you meant to say. Anyway, I appreciate the comments you've all made. It's good to see people out there that still love the real rock and roll.

UFO has always been my "most underrated" band ever. Michael Schenker is sooooo good. Has a style similar to Richie Blackmore.....at least, to my ears. Their album, Lights Out, is one of my fav "metal" albums of all time. I know they will never make it into the Hall but they deserve their props, that's for sure. UFO.....Only You Can Rock Me Rock Me!!

Fano,

The song you called "Misty Green And Blue" is actually called "Love to Love" although "Misty Green And Blue" is the lyric that gets everybody attention

Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pearl Jam and Tesla have all cited UFO has an influence to their music.

NO!!!!

Posted by Gitarzan on Sunday, 11.9.08 @ 11:50am

Early forms of hard rock can be heard in music by Cream, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who and The Yardbirds. Deep Purple released the hard rock album "Shades of Deep Purple" in 1968 and Led Zeppelin released "Led Zeppelin" in 1969. So although UFO came along long after hard rock had started, they were still a great band who like I mentioned before influenced groups like Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Megadeth and Tesla. You need to do more research Cytos.

UFO were one of the greatest early hard rock bands.

"Doctor, Doctor" = Great intro, fantastic riffs.

Yes

Posted by Firebrick on Sunday, 12.7.08 @ 14:02pm

Why is it no one ever mentions the Paul Chapman era of the band. I love the early ufo stuff but even the band seems to ignore with there live shows any knowledge of albums like mechanics or the wild willing & the innocent ? I hope they will be inducted to the hall of fame along with the replacements & so many others that deserve it

I see all the comments about phenomenom and force it, lights out and said previously the Strangers in the night live album is outstanding but nobody mentions No heavy petting. I think that is one of there one of there best.

Posted by timothyc on Thursday, 02.12.09 @ 11:14am

Saw these guys live in the 70's. Phil Mogg, Michael Schenker and the boys gave a Hell of a show. In addition, "Phenomenon" and "Lights Out" are classic albums

UFO are a very influencial hard rock band. Kirk Hammett said in this interview that his, "whole attitude toward the guitar changed." when he heard "Mother Mary" by UFO.

Posted by Dude Man on Sunday, 07.5.09 @ 19:49pm

UFO should definately get in

Posted by Milestones on Saturday, 09.5.09 @ 05:02am

I am curious why UFO wasn't mentioned in Hetfield's induction speak. Trujillo specifically mentioned that he wanted them in.

Posted by Dude Man on Tuesday, 09.8.09 @ 13:18pm

Speech, not speak.

Posted by Dude Man on Tuesday, 09.8.09 @ 13:37pm

Kirk Hammet said er er blah yer,i mean really who gives a fu*k,what Hammet had to say,UFO should't have to be belitted to claim fame on a comment by a band that put out 2 great lp's 25 years ago,and have been overrated to hell ever since.UFO have been around since 69,with so much talent Schenker,Mogg and Pete Way,they are probably the most underatted rock act in history.

"Kirk Hammet said er er blah yer,i mean really who gives a fu*k,what Hammet had to say"-Fool who doesn't know the criteria

Old comment I'm addressing, but this is clearly a case of someone failing to realize that I&I are the criteria. UFO are never going to be inducted anyway, but they do have a case to be made for their influence. And for the record UFO, while underappreciated, are definately not "the most underatted rock act in history".

Posted by Dude Man on Monday, 11.16.09 @ 17:10pm

Hellow
Good list
I love UFO Band is great! a Phenomenon
i think the most underatted rock in bamd in history.

Budgie
Banchee

C'mon Everybody"! This band is phenomenal! When I turn the lights out and listen to one of the only bands that can rock me (rock me), this kid just gets long gone in thought, and they just keep saving me. Ok....'nuff of that!

I've seen the list of those in the Hall, and the boys definitely deserve to be there.

Posted by Mookie on Tuesday, 03.15.11 @ 17:37pm

Not a lot of action on this site. Too bad. UFO is awesome!! They toured with Rush and are just a great, entertaining, hard rocking band! Long live Rock!

YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING!
Never been considered?
I'm speachless.
No I'm not. Put them in the freakin HOF!!!!!!! Yesterday!

UFO should get in not only for their great songs and best live album ever (Strangers in the night), but also for the HUGE influence they had on so many bands.

It's hard to name an 80s hard rock or metal band that wasn't in some way influenced by Schenker's guitar and UFO's power onstage. I'd dare say if the truth be known UFO influenced more (hard core) rock bands to follow than even Van Halen did, because back then only guys really in to hard rock even knew who UFO really were!

It will take a while for UFO to get their props for their pioneering yet undeniable influence, much like the early blues men finally got their recognition for getting it all going, UFO should be remembered for carrying the R&R torch brightly enough through the Disco/Funk late 70's for the rebirth of metal in the 80's.

Never heard of them. I wasn't into the 80s metal scene but I was sure listening to all the rock and pop throughout the whole decade (which sucked compared to the 70s).

Posted by Brian Rogers on Saturday, 05.31.14 @ 16:31pm

Never heard of em either. Just another band on here hyped up by the fanboys trying to look cool. If they were so great they'd be on classic rock radio and have > 8% induction chances.

Posted by joker on Saturday, 02.14.15 @ 17:22pm

The real reason these guys aren't the Hall of Fame is simple. Their recording company Chrysalis did a horrible job of promoting and distributing their music and back in the day recording companies paid graft to the radio stations in major metropolitan listening areas (payola)for air time and Chrysalis was not willing to do it for these guys. The lyrics, arrangements and musicianship of this band was phenomenal in the late 70's and into the 80's when they were at the height of their musical power. Their influence of other groups and musicians cannot be denied and they still continue to record and perform to enthusiastic audiences long after many of their contemporaries have faded into obscurity. My suggestion to any of their detractors is to get ANY Led Zeppelin album and compare Jimmy Paige's guitar leads or solos to those on an album such as "Obsession" or "Force It" by UFO with Michael Shenker on his Gibson flying V and get ready for a very rude awakening!

Posted by Tim Holstein on Monday, 12.7.15 @ 17:14pm

To those people commenting that they never heard of "UFO" my only question to them is simply this. Were you living in a hole somewhere out in the desert without communication to the outside world or stranded on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean minus a radio back in the seventies and eighties? Gee, I'm sorry perhaps you were all ABBA fans and just haven't a clue what real rock and roll music is supposed to sound like!

Posted by Tim Holstein on Monday, 12.7.15 @ 17:26pm

UFO .....Schenker, Moog, Way, Parker, then Raymond and Chapman...simply the best.
Phenomenon, Force It, No Heavy Petting, Lights Out, Obsession and Srangers in the Night. These Albums should be in Every Rockers Collection.
