Their debut LP, Kilimanjaro, is an outstanding blend of neo-psychedelia, post-punk, and new wave sounds. The line-up of musicians on that album is magnificent, especially David Balfe, who has become one of my favorite keyboardists. Here, he's credited with playing the synthesizer, organ, AND piano! Julian Cope, IMHO, has yet to produce anything that excels the work he did while fronting The Teardrop Explodes (although his earliest solo and some of his 90s stuff does compare nicely to the Teardrop years). A pity these guys couldn't have kept it together longer; they'd be spoken of in the same tones as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Magazine, Echo and the Bunnymen, Japan, and XTC (all groups I love very much).
