Survivor is another good band that won't make the RRHOF.The Survivor hits of the 80's was impressive:The massive hit Eye Of The Tiger,Burning Heart,High on You,I Can't Hold Back,& the underrated classic ballad The Search Is Over.

Like many bands,Survivor started moving to a more Top 40 sound with the synthesizers & broadening their base of fans. Should have stayed with the more upbeat rockers like Eye Of The Tiger & Burning Heart. KING

Jim Peterik is the most underrated song writer, he should be in the song writers hall of fame.

Jim Peterik was also in the Ides of March. He wrote and sang lead on their biggest hit, Vehicle.

FORMER SURVIVOR BASSIST STEPHAN ELLIS DIES

“Stephan Ellis, who played bass in Survivor from 1981-87, and again from 1996-99, has died.”

“The cause of death was not given.”

“Guitarist Frankie Sullivan broke the news on the band's Facebook page. "We are devastated to hear that Stephan Ellis has passed away," he wrote. "Steph was the guy who was only interested in the music. He absolutely had a special charm with the fans and within the band."

“Keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Jim Peterik, who founded the band with Sullivan, wrote that the news of Ellis' death "hit me like a shot. ... Stephan was the genuine rock 'n' roll article. He had the look, the attitude and his aggressive style on his Fender Precision bass that helped define what would become the signature sound of Survivor."

“Peterik also recalled how Ellis joined the band. After the rhythm section of bassist Dennis Keith Johnson and drummer Gary Smith left following Survivor's self-titled debut album, Peterik and Sullivan went to Los Angeles to audition new members. They saw a band called Baxter playing in a roller rink, and approached Ellis about trying out for the band.”

"Next morning he showed up promptly at 9:30 along with the drummer Frankie had set up to audition, Marc Droubay," Peterik recalled. "What a fortunate coincidence, because from the downbeat of a new song we were working on called 'Hearts of Stone' we knew we had found in this rhythm section the sound we were looking for: solid, pounding and totally locked as a unit. We soon started working up songs that became the pivotal album in Survivor’s history, the one that famously caught the attention of one Sylvester Stallone. It was called Premonition. It was indeed."

“Ellis played on all of the band's major hits, staying with the group through 1986's When Seconds Count. He returned a decade later, but left again in 1999. He played a few more shows with them in 2005.”

RIP

Survivor/David Bickler/Real Men of Genius

A body of work that holds up. "Eye Of the Tiger" alone passes the iconic test. I believe iconic equals HOF.
As for David Bickler's radio spot work, thou Bud Light's current Dilly Dilly campaign is indeed a true friend of the crown, when advertising royalty is spoken, Real Men of Genius wear thy crown. Relive radio yesteryear here as I've assembled a classic time waster from hard drives gone by.

enjoy.

Survivor had 4 or 5 top 20 hits and Eye of the Tiger was voted as the most iconic song for film ever. Not to mention, Jim Peterik has written hits for a gazzilion other top bands.
(38 special, Sammy Hagar, REO and many others.) If T-Rexx gets in with one hit, then Survivor should be in and Jim Peterik should also be in on his own merit!

"One hot wonder"? No chance! This band had album after album of great songs! I'd love to see them get inducted, it won't happen, but I'd love to see it!

Jim Peterik should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an influencer, even if you don't consider the whole band Survivor. Peterik wrote Vehicle, for his first band the Ides of March, which was the fastest-selling single in the history of Warner Bros. at that time peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. That was a stellar beginning for the man behind Survivor's hits, including co-writing the iconic Eye of the Tiger, major hits for 38 Special, including Hold On Loosely, and songs for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackhawk, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, Cathy Richardson, Van Zant, Brian Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and The Beach Boys. His World Stage comcerts bring together iconic singers and musicians that keep other rock and roll influencers on stage every year. He is an overlooked gem!

Peterik should be in on his own. Frank Seidel's post above says what needs to be said about this.

It's just my opinion but I feel Jami Jamison and his phenomenal band should be inducted. I'm in my 60s been there done that. Jimi voice was fantastic. He lived his music as well as entertaining on stage without going bat shit crazy and although few musicians get away with it. The half wits in these comments against him are probably too out of it to make sense to a two yr.old.

Survivor should definetly be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They should already be in. Great band, great songs, and great musicians!

For Survivor's essential songs, can, or should, I nominate any of Dave Bickler's "Real Men of Genius" vocals for Bud Light?

Not just one movie song, two different lead singers, with more than one movie hits , lead guitarist as good as anyone and Jim p and frank s. Had over 1200 songs they wrote together. Ask other bands that used their songs and made them hits if they belong, they do by far .

Survivor should not be in the hall of fame because they were a great band and the hall of fame is a farce. If you look at the list of artists that have been inducted and then look at the artists that meet the eligibility requirements but have not been considered, you will see that the hall of fame is sham. Survivor and all of the other great bands that have not been selected should be proud of the fact that their name is not associated with that shit show.

Personally Survivor is my favorite band(2nd being Led Zeppelin and 3rd being Whitesnake) so of course there is gonna be bias here. But with music in general, it's aa very subjective topic and almost everyone is bias in one way or another. But this is just my opinion and I respect anyone else's opinion. I believe Survivor should be in the rock and roll hall of fame. Most people only know them for Eye Of The Tiger and maybe some songs like High on You, I Can't Hold Back and The Search is Over. But if you ever went into some of their less known songs. You can find some really awesome ones. Sadly with the way the band was managed and advertising. The band wasn't too successful after the two albums Eye Of The Tiger and Vital Signs. So not many know a lot of the songs from When Second's Count and Too Hot to Sleep. As well as Premonition and Caught In The Game albums. I encourage anyone too hasn't head them to look up songs like Didn't Know It Was Love, Poor Man's Son, Rebel Son, Too Hot To Sleep, Man Against The World etc. Very amazing songs I think you'll like if you like the more popular Survivor songs. I like to compare Survivor to Journey. Very beautiful ballad songs with an amazing voice from both bands. Jimi Jamison is in my opinion the most underrated singer of all time. Jimi Jamison sounds very similar to Steve Perry imo. Frankie Sullivan was also a very amazing guitarists as well. Survivor overall is in my opinion, an amazing band that I believe is on par with Journey that had bad luck after Vital Signs with management and advertising and as a result, are one of the most underrated bands of the 80's that most people think are a one hit wonder with Eye Of The Tiger. I encourage anyone to really give an honest listen to many of their less known songs. Hopefully you find any enjoyment out of them. If not that's fine. Again I respect anyone's opinion, I hope yall respect mine. If you disagree with me, then do it respectfully please. We all love music, no reason to fight over what bands we like/don't like. Agree to disagree. But yeah, I believe Survivor should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. And that is simply my opinion

I feel that Survivor deserves to be in The Rock and Roll hall of fame, they won me over a long time ago. They have earned the right to be inducted because their badass ! I love these guys and I know there's a lot of people out there that love them as well.
