Thank you FRL.

Steve Goodman may not be an artist that is well known among the general public but he is well known to several artist that are listed on this site. Some of these artist have been or are being inducted to the R & R Hall of Fame such as Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, Les Paul, Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, Jackson Browne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pete Seeger and Roger McGuinn.

He has recently come to the public's attention with this year's World Series and the Cub's victory celebration. The Cub's victory song, Go Cubs Go was written by Steve Goodman and was constantly played over a two month period. It was given so much attention that the song actually charted.

Some of his other songs are:

You Never Call Me by My Name - covered by and a hit for David Allan Coe

Ballad of Penny Evens - covered by Michelle Shocked

A Lover is Forever - covered by Etta James and Trisha Yearwood

Songs that were regularly played on Dr. Demento:

Lincoln Park Pirates
Daley's Gone
Go Cubs Go
A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request

His most important song was City of New Orleans - Covered by over 80 artist and 5 of those were in languages other than English

It was a hit for the Arlo Guthrie cover in the 70's

The Willie Nelson cover was a hit on the Country charts about 13 years later and won one of Steve Goodman's two Grammys

The John Denver cover was the first song to be played in space

The song has been performed more recently by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fallout Boys

He has appeared on Austin City Limits, The Johnny Cash Show and The Vin Scully Program

He HAS 3 main followings: Cubs fans, Folk fans and Country fans

The State of Illinois revoked the license of Lincoln Park Towing this week. Here is to celebrating and hoping it sticks this time.

Lincoln Park Pirates written and performed by Steve Goodman was highly requested on Dr Demento. I am not sure if it is true but I have read comments online that radio stations would not play the song for fear of being sued. Some versions mention Casio by name.
