Big in england, but nowhere else.
P.S. They suck

I remember Matchstick Men getting a lot of airplay on local college radio stations in the 70's and into the 80's in the US, long after it was a hit. I'm pretty sure it was their only US hit.

I've heard they've had something like 20 Top Ten hits in the UK. Maybe we're missing something great, but I don't think so. I remember their version of "Rocking All Over the World"! Don't get the popularity of Oasis over there either. Repetitive, derivative, boring. But I don't think it's because I'm a totally ignorant American because I really like the Small Faces and several other bands that were primarily/only big in the UK.

One of the greatest English band! Love em!

"Pictures of Matchstick Men" definitely had everything you'd want in a psychedelic song...but that guitar with a load of chorus (sounding a bit like an amplified mandolin) playing the same four notes over & over was most annoying...

Posted by Gitarzan on Thursday, 12.24.09 @ 14:10pm

Hm..I actually didn't mind that chorused guitar :)
Status Quo is a truely great band! My friend just got me their special packaged 10 albums for Christmas, and they are just great!

they have a huge following all throughout Europe, and even as far as Dubai! just because they didn't make it in America doesn't mean that they are not rock legends.

plus, how many other bands have been touring for over 40 years without stopping?!?!

Of all their hits they had in the Seventies in the UK and Europe, I'm very surprised that "Whatever You Want" didn't make it as a hit in the States. That song can get people a rockin', I tell ya! The very first time I heard the song was at a rugby club party in the UAE in 2002, and fell in love with it immediately. I'm not the only American who has made this kind of comment, by the way.

WORST BAND EVER TO COME OUT OF ENGLAND !

Posted by Mike on Saturday, 07.10.10 @ 17:12pm

I have a feeling, "Chris," "James," "Anna-Lee," "Olivia" and "Mike" are all the same person. Especially considering all their posts essentially talk about the same thing and all came within a few days of each other.

The band's been going strong for about 45 years. They tour none-stop, give all proceedings of thier tours to charity. They've had almost 30 albums (not including 'Best Of's). They were one of the biggest names in the entire British Heavy Rock movement of the early 70's. I think they deserve some respect.

Quo have had record sales that would be gods gift if it were any other band. They will never get in the HOF as they did not make it big in the US, which seems to be the criteria. Quo live were simply outstanding, those muppets that bring up the three cord rubbish can neither count nor play guitar. Some songs do have three cords, but they are a 12 bar band, what do you expect. No one ever critisied Bob Marley for only playing Reggae. Their early work is brilliant, just great rock and roll mainly due to Parfitt's right arm.Keep rockin Quo, the rest can go and listen to lady Gaga.

Posted by James on Friday, 02.18.11 @ 03:10am

What kind of argument is that? No one complains that bob marley plays just Reggae?
WELL WHO WOULD.

status quo is rock, thats what the status quo is, nothing less, nothin more. They should be in the rock and roll hall of fame, and some of the non rock and roll krap already inducted should be hauled out and burnt in the street, krap like Michael Jackson, give me a break!

Posted by rick on Thursday, 03.10.11 @ 20:35pm

Michael Jackson makes Status Quo look like shit, just sayin'.

Posted by GFW on Thursday, 06.2.11 @ 17:27pm

Status Quo are british rock legends!! Of course they will never be inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame because Americans have never took to them! Unfortunatly a great band have been denied a great opportunity!

Quo are true legends and just enjoy doing what they do with no pretending they are 'artists'....just entertainers.

Posted by Sir Pig on Saturday, 11.12.11 @ 00:01am

Of course.

They are without doubt the very best at what they do.

No question.

Yes Status Quo are a great band and should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If Bruce Springsteen made it anyone should be able to make it. Even if Springsteen's music was good I wouldn't like it.

Posted by fastaire on Saturday, 06.15.13 @ 13:34pm

The quo most surely should be in the rock,n,roll hall of fame for theyre tireless didication to british rock through the past decades...they are along with the Who the most iconic ispirational rock band in Britain and loved by our nation.

Posted by Ian on Saturday, 01.9.16 @ 22:55pm

Of course they should be there. Generations of non-Yanks love them which in itself is a good enough reason. Just because cluelss Seppos don't get them doesn't mean they aren't worthy.

Posted by Max Emery on Friday, 04.8.16 @ 18:25pm

Those yokels dissing Quo are talking out of their Butt...... Wouldnt know a piledriver if it grew fangs and bit them on the arse....
Rick an arsehole....??... bull, one of the most decent and funny blokes in rock.....

top of the list to be inducted, should have been years ago, legends....
