Man, It’s a Hot One: The Oral History of Santana and Rob Thomas’ ‘Smooth’

How Carlos Santana scored his first hit in decades with help from Matchbox Twenty’s frontman — and how it almost didn’t happen. The making of the unlikely 1999 smash

Saw Santana live last weekend, and I must say, it was awesome. Stellar, as expected. I mean, it's Carlos Santana. He's quite aware of his place in rock history, as there were lots of video playing during his early songs (like his performances at Woodstock). They did all of their big hits (Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman (w/o the cool intro), Evil Ways and even songs from one of my favorite albums, Supernatural. Of course, he had his own singers to fill in those superstar vocals. Would have been cool to hear "Open Invitation" and "All I Ever Wanted" live but you can't get them all! So glad I finally got to see an act that has long been on my bucket list.
