Today is the 61st anniversary of Sam Phillips' founding of the Sun Studio. So many giants recorded in that humble place. Let's pay our respects to one of the three most important record labels (The other two are Atlantic and Chess) and listen to the greats! I'm currently listening to Roy Orbison: The Sun Years as I type this tribute.

Had Sam Phillps only discovered Elvis Presley, he would've earned his spot in the Hall of Fame, but his record label also hosted singers like Jerry Lee Lewis And Carl Perkins. His Sun Studio was the place where such rock and roll classics as "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" were recorded.

Without him and Sun Studio, people like Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash would never have been discovered and become prefroming artists.

Without Atlantic Records, we woundn't have singers like Ray Charles, Ruth Brown and Aretha Franklin or groups like Cream, Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, and Iron Butterfly.

If we didn't have Chess Records, people like Bo Diddly, Etta James and Chuck Berry woudn't come into being.

I'm with you, Zach on Sam Phillps' importance in the development of rock and roll.

I'm so sorry Zach, but I wasn't able to tune in to your show because I was in school at 2:00. I'll see if I can tune in on Saturday night.

By the way, do you like the music of Billy Joel and Elton John?
