Here is a example of Rihanna's songwriting:

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky.

And here is Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young:

You, who are on the road must have a code that you can live by.
And so become yourself becuase the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well, thier father's hell did slowly go by, and feed them on your dreams, the one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you you would cry,
so just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

Need I say more about which one is better?

(also, since when has "being equal to, or better than CSN&Y been the rule for who gets in and who doesn't?)

GFW,

In this comment, I was comparing Rihanna's songs to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's songs. I know that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame cares more about influence then popularity or album sales, but I can't see Rihanna getting into the Hall of Fame.

I'll take Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young over Rihanna any day.

Never.

Rihanna!? Rock and roll Hall of fame!? O dear....she's nice but not comparable with really great singers or Bands like Queen, led zepplin and( still my favourite <3) MUSE. When you compare these Rock and roll talents with Rihanna she sounds like an one-hit-wonder... now she's glorious but one day she's history .history of unknown. She can sing but it isn't enough

I had no idea 2002 brought us several hit acts. 2027 may look to be a puzzling year on deciding who gets in. If it were judged by most chart hits, Rihanna would easily get in. She probably does not have a HOF-worthy career (most of her idols aren't in as of now). We shall see.

and of course, most say no and don't see outside there narrow field of vision, i'm not saying she is the best R&B singer in the world (i'm not even a big of her music)but her growing legacy can't be ignored, i'm not sure how many rock artist will admit to being influenced by her but there's going to be more then handfull

Rihanna is a great example of why all the votes should be reset or archived on this site, giving everyone a fresh start.

Do I think Rihanna is a lock? Absolutely not. Will I support her in 11-12 years when she becomes eligible? Backlog says try again in 30 years. But it baffles me that an artist with FIVE songs in The Song Project here has a 7% "yes" rate. Surely hitmaker Rihanna is in the top 20%ish of likely artists taking into account the hundreds of unknowns that have a page on this site?

its sad so many are saying no, now i'm not saying shes the best R&B singer in the world (i don't like 99% of her music) but did everyone forget the influence part of the hall?

Rihanna for better or worst is one of the most influential R&B artists of the 21th century and an icon of barbados singers also i'm not talking sales here, she is vary influential whether you like it or not

WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK! WORK!

Easily her worst song ever.

Rihanna will definitely be inducted in the future. Not only because she is the best selling Barbarian artist of all time who left her island country to pursue a successful career in music and make a name to herself centre stage, but also for reinventing her image and sound throughout the years or album eras, as well she is a fashion designer now. So hard rock fans, suck a lemon.

She is in the wrong year for eligibility. She debut in 2005. She did not debut before Kanye West or Beyoncé. Time is the correct answer no doubt she will get in most definitely in 2030s.

Andrew, if your going attack songwriting skills, you need to pick a song written by her, Diamonds was mainly written by Sia with some additional writing credits going to Benjamin Levin, and Stargate (Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen) It wasn't even produced by her, that credit goes to Benny Blanco and Stargate

If anything, she is getting better as a writer over the years, She co-wrote Love the Way You Lie and the modern Doo-wop classic, Love on the Brain.

Anyway, I'm not Rihanna fan, in fact, I find a lot of her music to be annoying (most of which she didn't write) that said, her influence on music is huge and covers Pop, R&B, Reggae ,Hip-Hop, Electronic and Rock genres.

People don't think she should be in because she's pop and "no artist that isn't 100% rock 100% of the time can ever be rock". This is retarded thinking. Pop = rock. Rap = rock. Everything = rock.

Chad:

I agree. But they say that about a lot of the nominees and inductees; if it isn't what they hear on their favorite metal or classic rock station, it doesn't belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They don't want to believe that there is a difference between what is rock (and Rihanna may or may not be considered rock) and rock and roll (where Rihanna definitely fits).
