This is the originial boy band. They are pioneers of a genre and still going strong after 25 years. They set the bar high and not to many have reached them. Think Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers and/or the Jacksons - NE is next. They have worked for this honor and I pray the judges will so that these men are innovators.

New Edition paved the way for all the boy bands from the 80's to the present. They are not only vocally talented, they are also outstanding performers which is the reason why they still tour on a regular basis to packed audiences. No other boy band group since then or before them can do the same. NE, as New Edition is known to their fans, said it best in a song off their "Heartbreak" album, "It's nice to be the original that all the counterfeits like to bite off." Enough said.

New Edition has remained an important part of the music industry for almost a quarter of a century! Although many have come and gone,New Edition continues to touch the souls of many, with a classic sound and style that remains unmatched. Their catalogue of timeless songs speaks for itself and stays in the hearts and minds of fans. New Edition has remained passionate about music and all that it stands for. During a given year, tour dates throughout the country take place, and in return, fans flock to get a taste of New Edition's mystique. It is undoubtedly evident that this ultra-talented group is well-deserving of this award to honor their continuous legacy.

NE is by far one the best boy bands still standing. Its very rare that you can find a boy band from 1983 and after that can captivate a audience like NE. They still continue to pack stadiums and I cant forget to mention that their concerts are LIVE (dancing and singing)! You cant get that from a artist in todays music industry. NE has paved the way for so many other artists and boy bands that they deserve recognition.

IMO this is a "no-brainer", YES NEW EDITION SHOULD GET IN, however, the realist in me looks at the disgraceful way the O'JAYS WERE TREATED AND I THINK THAT NEW EDITION WILL BE PASSED OVER THIS YEAR. I did vote YES however. Is This The End, Are You Still My Friend-I was just trying to lay down my synopsis, LOL. If NKOTB get in before New Edition, I wouldn't want to be an employee working there.

New Edition has been the most influential R&B music group over the past 25 years. NE has spawned groups such as Boys II Men, NKOTB, NSYNC and countless others. There will never be another group that has enjoyed such solo success Bobby Brown, BBD, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant. They have sold millions of records individually. The live performances are legendary. If you have not seen a NE show. Please treat yourself. Clear a space in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2008. NE IS COMING!

New Edition deserves to be in the hall not only for what they get credit for but all the things they don't get credit for. they were the first group to mix rap and r&b way before anyone else in the mid 80's. they are a huge influence on myself and countless other artists over the past 25 years and they the best live show on the planet. they were great then, their great now and they'll continue to be great on the future.

the whole boy band thing was reinvented with the coming of New Edition !!! why oh why people the boy band craze started with new kids on the block .
even before them there was the Force MDs and other R&B singing groups in the early 80's .
can someone explain why are black groups "groups"
and when white male groups sing r&b there called "boy bands" ? Can someone explain ?

They may be the original boy band (If you choose not to count the Jackson 5)

Should boy bands go into the Rock 'n Roll hall of fame though?

Yes. But where's Bell Biv DeVoe?

with all due respect,NE has been charting courses and has exemplified itself as a group and as solo artists.
how many persons in the music industry has this record of being boys who grew up in a tough neighbourhood and has dominated music on radio and television both has a group and as solo artists.
it is without reason that it is a no brainer that they are indeed a tough act to follow ever since the jacksons have left the limelight they have taken over and have fuzed pop and r & b and also brought the newjackswing much popularity.
i saw where teedy riley was honoured and diddy honoured but these persons should have NEVER gotten honoured on stage without Ronnie,Bobby,Ricky,Mike,Ralph and Johnny taking center stage on any of those fronts being also recognized.
If America is deemed a country of truth and justice it needs to follow up on it's words because musically NE has changed the face of the music industry in every aspect.

Okay, they had some hits...nothing earth shattering! They were okay, but we're talking "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" here! There are so many R&B artists that came before them that are way more deserving (Bill G. will probably attest to this). During that era of the 80's, it seems like there were a lot of vocal groups enjoying equal success (Boys II Men come to mind). I'm glad you like them, Denmark. I didn't think they were too bad either. I just don't think they were influential enough or innovative enough to be considered. When I saw "New Edition", I had to think for a second to remember who they were.

It wouldn't be the hall of fame and not let them in.

new edition should no longer have the title boy band, they are the greatest in american history and here's the exlpanation. New edition is the only group in american history with 5 or more members to have the group go on to do solo projects and each one goes platinum, nowhere in american music history has that ever been done before and then to have the come back together after their solo projects and sell millions of records, has never ever been done before them and as of now still has not been done, New Edition is america's first supergroup, They are what the rock and roll hall of fame is about and there is no way the most powerful group in american history will be left out and is a first time ballot inductee, you would have to put together a group consisting of neo , chris brown , dream , omarion , r. kelly , usher , to have another supergroup that's right it will never be another that powerful , look at the numbers before bobby left, after bobby left, when bobby returned and left again and when they added johnny gill, no other group has endured those kinds of shakeups and still had a loyal following, their concerts are legendary, new edition is an american brand of music almost everyone knows a new edition song and has a favorite new edition song, if this group is not a first time ballot we have disrespected an american brand they have a loyal following of fans that only prince and the beatles and the king elvis have enjoyed, great music, outstanding performers, these six men respect their new edition brand and understand that new edition is bigger than they are individually even though they have found success on their own this is america's first and only supergroup and there will never be another if you ever get the chance to see them live treat yourself to some classic r and b and a great show that you can even bring your kids to. Select this group and you will see its power over all the networks and the respect that other artists have for them. the world's biggest new edition fan and the unofficial seventh member.

Wow - someone is definitely drinking the kool-aid. Pure fluff and I could care less that they each had a solo album sell. They maybe the first boy band of the post 1980 generation, but they are certainly not the first boy band in r&b. Can you say Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers; Jackson 5 and a few others from the 50's and 60's?

This group, in my opinion, has nothing to do with the RnR Hall of Fame. The only way they get into the Hall is if they wait on line and buy tickets.

New Edition - f'n hysterical. I have yet to read one true musician cite them as a major influence. They innovated nothing and perpetuated less.

This should not have been a question, they should have been inducted a long time ago. This is the original boy band of the 80's. This is one group who held it together through all kinds of trials. They were the new generation Temptations and we know that they were amazing and you still here their music to this day. So yes they deserve to be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Dear LaToya,

Please read at the top of this page. New Edition could not have ever been inducted long ago. This year is/was their first year of eligibility. Reading is fundamental.

Sincerely,

NO GROUP HAS EVER HAD THE SUCCESS THAT THEY HAD AS GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS EXCEPT THE BEATLES

I believe in a "small hall" in as I don't like to induct a lot of groups or artists. In some ways, it puts me against a lot of those who support overlooked popular choices that turn up like Rush or CT.

Even moreso, I don't usually support groups like this, but...

New Edition is a no-brainer. They defined the New Jack style, and not only that, all went on to successful solo careers. Mike Bivins personally ushered in groups such as Boyz II Men, and that entire genre of music.

New Edition definitely deserves to be inducted.

"how many persons in the music industry has this record of being boys who grew up in a tough neighbourhood and has dominated music on radio and television both has a group and as solo artists." N.W.A. for one, and then Dr. Dre and Ice Cube had success on their own. Motley Crue (Vince being one of the few white kids in Compton), though they only had modest success on their own. It was rough in Birmingham when Black Sabbath was growing up and they were succesful, then Ozzy and Dio both had success on their own. Oasis grew up in Manchester, which was rough, and we'll find out this summer or fall whether they can cut it on their own. At least 2 complete examples.

"New edition is the only group in american history with 5 or more members to have the group go on to do solo projects and each one goes platinum, nowhere in american music history has that ever been done before and then to have the come back together after their solo projects and sell millions of records, has never ever been done before them and as of now still has not been done, New Edition is america's first supergroup, They are what the rock and roll hall of fame is about and there is no way the most powerful group in american history will be left out"

Well they were left out. It was 4 members rather than 5 but each member of KISS had a solo album that went platinum, and they continued to be succesful after that. Technically a supergroup is a band where at least one person in the band is already known, so technically the first supergroup is Cream. If you want to talk about everyone in the band having become known on a national stage it would be Bad Company (Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke w/Free, Boz Burrell w/King Crimson, Mick Ralphs w/Mott the Hoople.) If they were the most powerful American band they would be the most succesful American band, and they're not even close to that.

What? Yes, not lipsynching is unheard of isn't it? Seriously... that is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard, hands down.

New Kids On The Block are better!

30 plus years in the industry, loyal following, great music, had a lot of adversity, achieved a level of success that only few have enjoyed, this is HALL OF FAME MATERIAL. New Edition is the best R and B group ever and one of the original boy bands. Again 6 members of the group who all have been successful individually, classic records through the 80s 90s 2000s that still recieve air play on major radio stations. The day will come soon when people began to ask why and why not. This is America's first and only Supergroup. Find me a group that had six members who were successful before and after the group broke up and regained success when they joined forces again. Bobby Brown , Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv Devoe. That is a lot of power in one group and together they are New Edition. Do the right thing and put them in, this is a no brainer. You mean to tell me that rap artist are better than New Edition who has been in the industry 30 plus years, i don't understand it. Again the only group in the U. S. to have 6 members have individual success , each selling 1 million plus records while not with group and coming back together to sell millions of records. That has never been done ever. New Edition greatest group ever.

New Edition most definitely should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are the blueprint for the modern day boy band be it in pop, hip-hop or R&B. They were able to successfully merge R&B, hip-hop and rap by being one of the few R&B acts to be successful following the popularity of hip-hop and rap in the 1990s. They were also able to break off into separate successful acts and then come back together and still be successful as a group. No other boy band, including the Jacksons, can say that all of their solo acts were successful and influential. They are now being introduced to another generation, almost 35 years later and are as successful, relevant and influential as ever. Induct these legends!!!
