Linkin Park is a roller coaster. They are designed to look dangerous and edgy but in reality they are one of the safest things in the world. And safe is the worst thing you can be, musically.

If they make it into the hall I am going to set myself on fire.

They Suck

Posted by X on Friday, 01.5.07 @ 20:08pm

The have to go in, they're the ones who really popularized the nu-metal genre.

Posted by Tim on Friday, 01.12.07 @ 13:31pm

Nothing about "nu-metal" is good in any way. Apart from not being metal, it basically just tries to imitate the sound of late-'80s alternative bands like Faith No More and falling short by a mile. Even if they have influence (which is debatable), they lack originality and quality.

Posted by William on Friday, 01.12.07 @ 20:12pm

They have to be, even if they did not fully invented the sound but used certain sounds mixing together, but they are the one that mix all the genres together and make it sound a new one and unique as well as cool

Posted by TRTRZ on Friday, 01.19.07 @ 09:12am

No, it is not unique. It's a ripoff sound and it isn't even well-ripped off.

i hope they rot in hell

They have to get it! They've influenced the music industry in so many ways. They've paved they way for so many bands, so as fas as influence goes, they are in for sure! Plus they have some pretty sweet music. Plus, we aren't judging them by the sounds of the 80's, this is a new generation.

People that bash Linkin Park do it because others do it. No other reason.

They should and will be in the HOF one day. Deal with it.

the talent is endless all the hater leave them be just because your slipknot or limp bizkit are not as popular

Posted by drunknspike on Thursday, 04.5.07 @ 14:14pm

When will people get it through their thick, sloping foreheads that disliking one band does not automatically make you a fan of equally shitty bands?

Posted by William on Thursday, 04.5.07 @ 14:16pm

They're one of my favorite bands right now, but I will have to pass. Nu-metal's icon is not Linkin Park. It's Korn. And from Korn comes a ton of other influences too...Deftones, FNM, RHCP, The Cure (who you guys should be campaigning for). Notice that the LP fans that have been commenting have been immature, typing in all caps, posting ascii, shooting out insults to haters and shit.

The third album comes out next month. If it's big and critically successful, then it means one thing...no, LP still isn't HOF material, but their producer Rick Rubin...IS.

"IF THEY DON'T GO INTO THE HALL OF FAME THAN!!! SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THE WORLD!! LINKIN PARK'S AMAZING & THEY DESIGNED THEIR OWN KIND OF MUSIC. NO BAND HAS EVER MIXED METAL, PUNK, TECHNO & RAP!!"-thats funny u ever heard of kid rock whose mixing that 2gether since 82 plus country, blues, thrash and speed metal, southern rock i could go on their an awful rip off of the rap side of kid rock they dont even know what a riff is the gutair just sound like static noise getting into the hall is based on just sales but talent they dont have talent their the worst in the rap metal field

Posted by clint on Tuesday, 04.10.07 @ 11:41am

LP is definitely one of my favorites, but I'm not sure they are quite HOF material...yet. They have done a lot in the past seven years, just not enough to be in the rock hall of fame. But if the new album that comes out in May is a hit, they could be 'one step closer' (hahahahaha.. okay I know not funny) to achieving it. I don't think Minutes to Midnight will be the last we see of Linkin Park, so we'll just have to wait and find out. =]

Posted by structured:diffusion on Wednesday, 04.11.07 @ 13:58pm

F*** YES. i can totally see it happening. best band in the world definatly. hybrid theory sold like 19million copies or something... its stupid NOT putting them in the HOF

Posted by fuhaters on Thursday, 04.12.07 @ 12:06pm

They've produced two (soon to be three) full studio albums in seven years and none of them were anything new.

Stupid fans will say stupid things to justify their stupidity, though.

Woah, slow down buddy, there are loads of better bands out there other than linkin park who needs to go first.

Update to my first comment. Their third album showed some change, but it wasn't really for the positive among the fans. I'm still going to pass on this band until a few years from now.

Posted by maplejet on Tuesday, 05.22.07 @ 12:00pm

They will, and I'll kill myself that day.

Posted by Alex Ray on Saturday, 07.14.07 @ 20:37pm

If Linkin Park doesn't get this....then theres something wrong. Their music and lyrics are like no other. In each one of their albums, theres a song which probably band wished they could have made.

Posted by Ryan on Thursday, 07.26.07 @ 01:42am

I think it's way too early to speculate on this, but I believe history will look back on Linkin Park fondly.

Is Chester Bennington working on a cure for cancer? Because they sure as balls won't be remembered for their music.

Posted by Kit on Monday, 08.27.07 @ 15:23pm

haha the first album i remember getting was linkin park and i liked it

when i was about 6 or 7 and I sort of got the whole teen angsty stuff

now ive grown and im listening to alot more varied stuff; Smiths, Oasis and Beatles in particular

I came across LP again, and I finally realized how much it had ripped off all thos 80s alt bands from much longer before them. Yes, it was still a good album, but not quite as gob-smackingly-original as I had once thought.

Posted by liam on Thursday, 08.30.07 @ 14:09pm

LP Shouldnt make it into the HOF, because they are derivative. Yes I liked them when I was 14, but anyone who thinks this music pushes the envelope has never dared venture off MTV.

They remind me of those crappy Hair Metal/Boy Bands. They are a poppy/less edgier version of Korn. And Korn are Ripoff of Faith No More/Mr Bungle. Nuff Said.

Posted by Ant on Monday, 10.1.07 @ 11:59am

you can't deny that from 2000-2004 they put inside your heads songs like One Step Closer, Papercut, Points of Authority, In the End, Lying From You, Faint, etc...
angsty lyrics and edgy riffs with techno and hiphop. these guys introduced a "nearly" metal music to teens (coz no one but old geezers like you gives a damn about ACDC and Iron Maiden). give credit to Linkin Park for their efforts.

nu-metal isn't really metal but who cares, it still rock. and we all know that rock has been creeping to every other genre known to man... from death metal to teen pop.

Posted by jurist on Tuesday, 10.9.07 @ 08:30am

First off, tell me what about their riffs makes them "edgy." I've heard it all before. And teens hardly need "introducing" to metal.

Here's the final nail in the coffin:

Wow....what a fucking joke. Linkin Park are a bunch of fucking pansies. Open your damn minds people. They were "good" when Meteora was out and I was 13...then you realize "wow, what the fuck am I listening to?" I stopped listening to Linkin Park so suddenly, simple as that. Something just clicked, and I never looked back.

Nu-metal as a whole is a fucking joke. Linkin park uses the same formula for 90% of their songs.I am a fan of alternative and I've found myself going back in time rather than following today's music. It fucking BOTHERS me when people are campaigning for these undeserving shits to enter the Hall when The Cure hasn't been inducted yet, one of alternative's first mainstream acts.

Posted by Tom on Sunday, 11.11.07 @ 10:43am

wow! what the fuck? why does everybody have to make a goddamn mother fucking deal about some band? yeah i think they are pretty cool but in actuallity nobodies opinions about one band is going to make me change the way i feel towards a band. I hope they get in the HOF but remember they still have 18 years untill they are eligible a lot can happen in that time. Alot of the music i listen to has to deal with what is said yeah guitars DRUMS and soundboards make it better but if a band can get their message out in the words of the song then its good, if i agree with the message. In the dvd from minutes to midnight the band said something like, we finally became the band we wanna be and this is our true sound. i don't know how i feel about that. they did sound a little different and less rappy and the song no roads left by Mike Shinoda was good for not being rap i wonder how well they will progress in the future

Linkin Park are awful. they're so boring. in no way have they influenced or changed anything. it's such a waste of time to listen to them. There's no innovation, nothing that makes you sit up and say 'yeah that's great!'No they just churn out utter rubbish.

Posted by Luke on Wednesday, 02.13.08 @ 14:53pm

Ever since i've heard "numb" and "in the end" i've been addicted to Linkin Park. Hybrid Theory and Metemora are the best. And i am sad to say their new album sucks and doesn't kick ass.Only a few songs dorise up to a certain level.I know a lot of people agree and those who have never liked LP probably are thinking or saying aloud "this proves they've sucked since the beginning".

I know a lot of people who love LP and are addicts like me to the music. Then there are some who think their are way better bands out their.

But in my perception yes some of their songs may seem unpoetics and easy to write/record.But the way it connects to many fans is deeper than it may seem to other people. LP's music reaches to me by pulling and tugging on my hopes, memories, and relality of life and my perception of it. So you may not think LP is any where near great as some people claim, but all I can say besides that they are one of the best to me and "at least they don't create utter garbage and pointless songs and are not one hit wonders or just in it for the money."

So, I say yes they should be put into the HOF.

Posted by jeze on Monday, 02.18.08 @ 18:52pm

what most of you guys have forgotten is the grounds on wqhich they are nominated:influence and the progression of music, not sales. Because Linkin Park have in no way changed the rock-rap group of genres they shouldn't get in. despite this they are a good band but don't fill the choes of the rock and roll hall of fame

Posted by Connan on Thursday, 03.20.08 @ 08:06am

well you know what guys i agree with him. but they do rock. their influence is through the roof and they are making some pretty good music at a nice pace.

Linkin Park is amazing. The things they do. The way they can mesh their sound with almost any genre of music is incredible. You cant say their not well liked with all their CD's going more than double platnum. Oh and not to mention they sell out everywhere they go all over the world so quit tryin to live in the 80's and snap into relity their GOOD

Posted by william on Monday, 08.18.08 @ 15:52pm

"Almost any genre"? Really?

I'd like to see a comprehensive list.

Also, please stop sullying my good name with atrocious English. A typo or two is forgivable, but I count as least five blatant errors in five sentences. That's just terrible.

A band which can go from decent (Hybrid Theory) to bad (their new album) in just 3 (?) albums should never be in the HOF.

One of the very few bands where every single song is enjoyable, and could be a hit. I think they lost a step with Minutes to Midnight though, I enjoyed Hybrid Theory and especially Meteora a whole lot more. If they go back to that sound I'd say yes..if they stay like they are now, I'd say no.

Posted by Jared on Tuesday, 03.24.09 @ 16:56pm

I'm not sure. They have really changed over the years and are moving farther and farther away from the nu-metal genre that made them popular. This gives them a larger opportunity, but it may or may not make their music better, which is the important part.

Posted by Wes on Saturday, 04.4.09 @ 21:14pm

Linkin Park is one of the kings of nu metal and everybody knows it hybrid theory was killer and unlike most bands their sophmore album meteora was just as dope now minutes to midnight is far different musically than any other thing LP has done but i say its still awesome i mean m2m has sold over 6 million right now.....so i dont think any other band can fuse nu metal with rapcore and hiphop and etc, than move to a more alternative style and still be as popular as LP is today, anyone who knows the great band Korn would know Linkin Park so thats why i think they should be in the hall of fame

well, personally, i believe that they should. like all other rock bands that have entered, they maintain a sound that is unique to their own. could you see metallica pulling an acoustic album off? or seeing aerosmith recording a screamo song? better yet, could you see the eagles including a hammering bass riff that would make trapped under ice bluff? personally, i thought not but your opinion is your own. they will find fans, regardless of who and the seventy some ppl on this site who dislike the band will make no difference.

As far as nu metal goes I would say Linkin Park(even though they're more alternative now) and Rage Against the Machine(they're nu metal, just admit it people) are the only bands thst have any chance of induction and the Korns, Limp Bizkits, Papa Roaches, Deftones, etc. have no chance what so ever.

Humbly disagree in respects to Korn. They helped popularize the use of the 7-string guitar on their early records, and were around before many of the others you listed, including Linkin Park. I'd like to believe the voters may look at this down the line (LIKE TO being the operative words here).

Posted by Cheesecrop on Monday, 08.31.09 @ 18:40pm

No you got me wrong. I wasn't making fun of Korn, I'm just saying that I don't think they have any chance of induction.

I personally think if we had to induct bands that helped rap-metal or bands that dabbled in it they should be Faith No More or Anthrax(even though most of Anthrax's best material is thrash). They both were influencial and came way before a lot of those bands.

Posted by Dude Man on Monday, 08.31.09 @ 18:59pm

Here's basically how I view the chances of n-metal(notice the umlaut) getting in the hall:

Good chance- Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park

Mild- Kid Rock, Slipknot, maybe Korn

Zero, no chance at all- Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Deftones, P.O.D., Mudvayne, Disturbed, and about every other n-metal(umlaut again) band.

Posted by Dude Man on Monday, 08.31.09 @ 21:06pm

My View:

Automatic: Rage Against The Machine (I don't see them as a n-metal(notice the umlaut)band, but for the sake of this argument)

Good Chance - Faith No More

Mild Chance - Kid Rock, Slipknot, Korn, Linkin Park

Zero - Every other n-metal(umlaut again) band.

Posted by Gassman on Tuesday, 09.1.09 @ 01:17am

System of a Down should go in good chance

Posted by Gassman on Tuesday, 09.1.09 @ 01:51am

I think the only reason people don't call RATM a n-metal(umlaut!) band is because they were political.

System of a Down I would give a mild chance because even though they were an "art band" they were "art band" in a very n-metal(the umlaut is still there) way(see "Violent Pornograhy", "This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm on This Song", ""Chop Suey!", etc.)

Faith No More, were most likely the biggest influence on n-metal(...umlaut), but they won't get in because unless your a Faith No More fan, you only now them from "Epic".

casual,

Linkin Park is technically ineligible for the RRHOF, as artists only become eligible 25 years after their first recorded material (in this case, 2025 is 25 years after Hybrid Theory).

I do join you in supporting their induction, however.

This comment is hilarious:

"haha the first album i remember getting was linkin park and i liked it

when i was about 6 or 7 and I sort of got the whole teen angsty stuff

now ive grown and im listening to alot more varied stuff; Smiths, Oasis and Beatles in particular"

Yeah NOW you're finally, barely a teenager (13-14 at best judging by your timeline) and you grow out of the "teen angsty" stuff. Yeah, I'm sure we all recall the good old days of our 2nd grade teen angst. *eyeroll* How sophisticated are you, man?

Oh yeah, Linkin Park for the HOF? No. I might have said yes during my pimply faced, angsty potty training days though, LOL.

Posted by jayne on Monday, 09.28.09 @ 09:39am

Linkin park should definitly get into the hof they were the 1st band to play rap- metal good, they were the first band to introduce the dual lead singer system which works amazingly. All the other "rap" metal bands don't actually rap they talk shifty lyrics unlike lp where every word that mike raps means something. So in 2025 pinkin park should without a doubt be inducted into the hall but shitty bands like kid rock and rage against the machine should not because they didn't have near the success of lp

there first album came out in 2000, in nine years they became one of the biggest moden bands in the world. Thats impressive!
Green day another one of the biggest bands in the world they got togeather in 1988 there first album come out in the erly 1990 it took the more than twice as long than LP to get where they are to day, just above LP but not by much there compared to each other more than you would think!
They rock!

hands down deserve it. in the end is one the top singles of the decade, and hybrid theory sold over 30 million copies so far. if they suck, why do people keep buying their albums? and can they be eligible earlier? because they're first demo was from like 98 or something

Posted by austin on Sunday, 01.24.10 @ 21:34pm

well the band has come a long way from nu metal to metal. Each albulm has atleast three or four catchy songs which will have you humming all day long. But someone made a comment earlier which changed my mind slitely the bad isnt Bad-ass. They seem too tamed. But mosts groups arnt angry enough these days. But hopefully when the band release a fourth if not fift albulm ill be shouting yes, let them in. i personally feel that the band needs to grow first...i once believed them to be the best bad of the decade and thought slightly slipped from hearing Minutes to Midnight. But i then relised i was listening to the albulm constantly. They took a chance in a new stlye which works, but i believe only those people who have been through some kind of emotional scary or anguist within they lives will love this band as much as i did. thank you. and i vite yes.

They're not metal. They barely even qualify as hard rock. Even after getting out of the angry 12-13 year old phase (I'm 20) I still think Hybrid Theory and Meteora have good tracks but in no way are they revolutionary. Plus, there's a bunch of more deserving artists still waiting. As of now? No Hall of Fame for them. By 2025, though, who knows what they might've done?

Posted by Sam on Tuesday, 02.23.10 @ 15:29pm

If any "nu-metal" bands are going to get in it should be Korn, Deftones, and System of a Down. That's it. The rest of them can rot in hell for all I care.

Posted by David on Tuesday, 03.9.10 @ 00:09am

I came across LP again, and I finally realized how much it had ripped off all thos 80s alt bands from much longer before them. Yes, it was still a good album, but not quite as gob-smackingly-original as I had once thought.

Posted by liam on Thursday, 08.30.07 @ 14:09pm

Ditto. Hybrid Theory and Meteora have some songs which I still like, but they cannot be brought into this discussion until Korn, Rage Against the Machine (ironically, I still love Rage, but now that I've dug deeper I no longer view them as all that original), Gang of Four, Tool, Faith No More(you're telling me you cannot draw a line between "Epic" and what LP are doing?), Public Enemy, Anthrax and Pantera are all inducted. And RATM's credentials are limited, and all of the above have people in their genre that should get in before them (though apparently categorizing FNM is difficult; I haven't listened to much of their stuff.)

They will. Not right now there's still so much more time to pass. But they will. People, stop comparing to other bands or who came first or whatever. I'm sure when those classic bands or artists that are now in the HOF first came out, the older generation did not think they'd make it. Stop comparing, you can't. I'm not saying they're the BEST, but you can't say they're not good

I am more than certain Linkin Park will be in the Hall Of Fame when the time comes.

Posted by JaySensei on Sunday, 01.9.11 @ 20:04pm

Linkin Park will get at some point. It may or may not happened as soon as they are eligible (which is 15 years away anyways) but they will be in. Look at the career they have established in 10 years. Granted there are many other bands that should get in before them, but they will be in also at some point.

i think they will be hof one day cuz they have great music stile but i didnt like there new album alot they really should go back to the old school

Posted by zaher on Monday, 02.7.11 @ 09:14am

To be honest, its still too early to say for LP as they are relatively a young band with less than 5 albums out...besides there is plenty of time between now and 2025..they could have revolutionized music by that time, who knows...as of know though they are somewhat substandard especially considering their third album was a slight disappointment musically for me..it wasn't as good as I expected it to be ( their first two albums were great despite the claims that they were ripoffs.

They are definitely being considered as a serious candidate for the future but they have long way before they can be inducted into HOF.

Posted by Mimi on Thursday, 02.10.11 @ 08:06am

Out of the bands that made their debut in the 2000s, LP is definitely among the most distinct and influential.

They are truly artists (despite what detractors say), unafraid to take risks and never make the same album over and over again - their latest "A Thousand Suns" is proof of that and an excellent effort at that - the record is glued to my ears at the moment! Only time will tell if I will love it just as much as or MORE than Hybrid Theory or Meteora (I do agree though that Minutes to Midnight is a bit of a letdown by their standards though I love the hard rocking single "Giving Up" from that record).

Let's see what else LP have up their sleeves over the next 15 or so years. :)

If this was a hall run by angsty 12 year olds I'd consider LP a shoe-in....

Posted by elias on Thursday, 09.8.11 @ 22:31pm

LP may not be original but they are one of the FEW that MIX GENRES, how many do you know that go from hard rock, to alt rock, to (im guessing next is) techno... if ANYONE deserves to go in the Hall its these brave artists who experiment with many of rock's genres

Posted by Wolf on Friday, 09.23.11 @ 13:36pm

Linkin Park must definitely be placed in the hall of fame. They are the most unique and awesome band. Their music is amazing and no one can ever match them.
I think people who are posting negative comments may not have heard the albums like Hybrid Theory, Meteora, etc or they have totally no sense/knowledge of music.

LP is awesome. Whether they changed their style is kind of irrelevant I feel like. I believe they were completely original and had an influence on the music industry. Why else would they be selling out concerts worldwide?

Posted by Charlie on Tuesday, 04.24.12 @ 22:13pm

They should be in the hall of fame if not for any other reason other than they are one of the best bands of the 2000s.
P.S. Lady Gaga sucks.

They're as generic and safe as it gets, even if they try to seem like they're "edgy"... nu-metal is so craptacular it is amazing anyone would consider them to be inducted...

Posted by Daniel on Friday, 12.21.12 @ 07:42am

Whether they sell out concerts is almost irrelevant. One Direction sell out concerts as well, and they sure as hell won't be inducted. LP's only fans are angsty teenagers who want to feel edgy and yet have no idea how to. Just look at the immature comments people have made on this page. They make me wish the world DID end today (December 21st 2012).

Posted by Daniel on Friday, 12.21.12 @ 07:58am

I don't like a lot of (what I call) corporate/fake/butt-rock of today, or ever since the days of Creed and Nickelback first coming out, but I do respect Linkin Park. Sure, a lot of their stuff does sound the same. At least they got a defining sound. LP just grabs me somehow. It's not even their radio songs. Just listen to any song off their first 3 albums and you may get another opinion.

It doesn't matter if they sell out any concerts (like the above comment pointed out). After all, KISS is STILL not in and they do. For those who pay attention to chart positions, you can definitely say they totally dominated the Mainstream Rock/Alternative Rock charts on Billboard the last 12 years. I'm not sure if they are the 'Band of the Millennium' so far, but I can definitely tell they are successful in their own right, and if they keep it up they WILL get in the HOF. Maybe not first year :(

Posted by Jason Voigt on Friday, 12.21.12 @ 21:34pm

What an awful excuse for a band. I may have enjoyed this fake, angst-y, dribble when I was 10, but I have seen through the corporate facade. These d-bags were no better than Nickleback when they debuted. Linkin Park sucks, and are undeserving of a R&R Hall of Fame induction.

Posted by Isacc on Saturday, 03.30.13 @ 02:23am

Reasons why they should: None

Why they should not: They are boring. their fans (ALL of them) are a bunch of militant zombified cry babies with no individuality, They have not influenced the industry in ANY way. They would be getting in the hall of fame for a genre invented by Faith No More.

And to top it all off, they completely abandoned their fanbase (their fans deserved much worse than that though) so they could become more popular.

In conclusion: They are a bunch of talentless, chart riding losers with a horribly retarded fanbase, That have never made an original style of music and suck on a massive level.

(I know this will enrage people but it is completely true)

Posted by Pedro on Thursday, 07.25.13 @ 15:33pm

Their debut album Hybrid Theory was certified Diamond in the U.S. like 5 years ago, meaning it's probably sold 11-12 million by now. In terms of debut albums by rock groups, it's really only behind Appetite for Destruction, Boston's self-titled, and Pearl Jam's Ten in terms of sales. Pearl Jam will probably get in their first year, and GNR got in on the strength of one album (c'mon, we all have to admit that Use Your Illusion didn't even come close to topping Appetite). Ignoring the fact that Boston is one of the most glaring omissions in the history of the Hall (right behind KISS, who finally got in this year...about 16 years later than they should have!), that puts Linkin Park in some pretty elite company, even if their subsequent albums didn't do nearly as well. They've managed to survive for 14 years with one lineup, they're still releasing music, still headlining major tours all over the world, and still have singles coming out that get significant airplay. They are, by all traditional definitions, a very successful band. Look at them, then look at the other "heroes" of the nu metal movement. Korn's doing dubstep, every song Disturbed's put out in the last 10 years has sounded exactly the same, and Limp Bizkit...well, I couldn't even tell you what they're up to anymore. I think it says a lot that they're the band that "survived."

It's ridiculous to even recommend LP for the Rock & Roll HOF, but based on all the other superfluous inductees representing Soul, RAP, Gospel, Disco, R&B, Hip Hop, Electronic, Punk, Pop or funk artists, but where inducted anyway, who the hell cares. As for the voting criteria that allowed this travesty, that's akin to blaming a retard for drooling on themselves.

The Metro-link Train rocks and rolls, so induct it into the HOF. Makes about as much since as NWA, Madonna and Grandmaster Flash being inducted. Solomon Burke in 2001? You got to be shitting me!

Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, The Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Journey, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Bad Company, ELO, Steve Miller and Pantera amongst many others are snubbed. Just change the HOF to "Any artist who's name was mentioned on the radio Hall of Fame" except real Rockers.

Voting Committee, kiss my ass!

I love when non-creators cry about how creators made something they don't like.

Linkin Park is one of the most innovative bands of our generation. They're guaranteed to be inducted just by the fact that they have the most number ones this century. Cope with that, you crybabies, and if you don't like it then learn to make something that you do like.

In other words, put up or shut up, kids.
