I challenge anybody who doubts that she belongs to watch every second of her full hour Woodstock '99 performance on youtube. She performs every stylistic range using all her own material, showcasing a masterful level of vocal talent. Also I recommend watching her upload of performing Deep Water in 1996 in MSG, just her and a guitar.

Jewel is one of the most important and authentic singer/songwriters of the 90's. Her recent autobiography telling about her early struggles and difficult family life, which includes overcoming a learning disability and finding a path out of homelessness, is worth reading. Her lyrics come from a place far deeper than most artists can even begin to imagine. Her voice is from the stars. Her guitar playing and musicianship, entirely self-taught, is ungilded but beautifully frames her voice and lyrics. Regardless of how many others not yet in the HOF who also deserve a place there, Jewel must not be left behind.

I was late to discover Jewel. When I watched her Woodstock show I was stunned by her native talent, what she could do with her voice and her performance skills, at such a young age. That's part of the story. I'm a professional writer and her writing is boffo. She acts. And her philanthropy: She's a Renaissance person. She needs to get some new stuff out there so people will know what they got.
