Unlike other Black Metal bands from Norway who nortortiously made music that are controversial enough to be unacceptable for the HOF, Immortal created their own lyrical styles. The lyrics were overall based on a “demon-and-battle-filled” themed realm called "Blashyrkh.”

This idea was inspired by Abbath and Demonaz Doom Occulta’s isolationed feelings living at their hometown. The world they created for their music is meant to mirror certain kinds of feelings, basing it on the surroundings of their country. The woods, the winter landscapes, the mountains, glacial valleys, darkness, fog, you name it.

When Demonaz writes lyrics, he normally takes lengthy walks in a countryside near Bergen for inspiration.
