If the category was around back then, they probably would’ve only gotten into the singles category, not as an artist.

Possibly, but I would say that's selling them extremely short. Rock historians have a lot of lavish praise for other songs of theirs besides "Why Do Falls In Love." "The ABC's Of Love," "I Want You To Be My Girl," "I'm Not A Juvenile Delinquent," etc. are all records that have been venerated by historians who know the history of rock and roll rather deeply.

They were The Jackson Five of The 1950's.
Had they come along 10 years later, they would have been just as big.
Like all Black entertainers, they were victims of the overt racism of the day.
But, here they are...in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ANYWAY.
That says a LOT.
