folk music was vary important to the development of rock, unfortunately a lot of it gets labeled as "country" even if its not, Carson is one of them,

he was big name in the 20s and was one of the first artists who became famous from being on the radio, resulting in even more musicians doing the same and helping push radios into peoples homes,

he's the forgotten fire that got men and woman to pick up an instrument, to buy records, to get a radio and to record music,

he helped make Okeh and RCA-Victor's Bluebird label into giants of the music industry,

if all of that is not influential, then i don't know what would be.
