Dave should DEFINITELY be inducted as a writer...One of the ALL-TIME GREAT songwriters...the hits he wrote with Isaac Hayes for Stax were legendary !! Hits for artists such as Sam and Dave , Will Smith, Marah Carey, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Celine Dion, Otis Redding, Drake, ZZ Top, Tom Jones, Ted Nugent, Bonnie Raitt, Wu-Tang Clan, Eminem, Patsy Cline, Albert King and The Eurythmics, among numerous others . Porter has over 1700 songwriter/composer credits and is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame . He is a BMI and Grammy award winner, and should have inducted DECADES ago !! How Isaac Hayes got inducted , and David Porter didn't BOGGLES THE MIND !!! Over 1700 Porter has over 1700 songwriter/composer credits including some of the biggest, best-remembered tunes of ALL-TIME !!!

*****DAVID PORTER*****
I have a question:
"WHY is Isaac Hayes inducted...while David Porter is NOT??" Especially when the TWO of them wrote all of those great Atlantic/Stax hits together as a DUO?
That's just as bad, and STUPID,as inducting the Holland Brothers...and leaving out Lamont Dozier !!!
But, his career goes so far BEYOND his partnership with Isaac Hayes !!!
From Wikipedia:

"David Porter (born November 21, 1941) is an American record producer, songwriter, singer, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

Porter was a 2005 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee with catalog sales exceeding 300 million units.[2][3] In 2015, Rolling Stone listed him among the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.[6] He is best known for songwriting credits including Sam & Dave's "Soul Man" (1968 Grammy Winner), Mariah Carey "Dreamlover" (1993 Grammy Winner), Will Smith's "Get Jiggy Wit It" (1999 Grammy Winner), Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin'", and Biggie Smalls "Who Shot Ya?".[3][5][7][8] He is also founder of Memphis-based The Consortium MMT.

Porter has over 1700 songwriter/composer credits for a range of artists including Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Celine Dion, Otis Redding, Drake, ZZ Top, Tom Jones, Ted Nugent, Bonnie Raitt, Wu-Tang Clan, Eminem, Patsy Cline, Albert King and Eurythmics." Just HOW GOOD must a person have to GET to be in this stupid Hall of Fame ANYWAY ??

Because Isaac Hayes was inducted as a Performer, and the Hall of Fame really needs to work on his huge backlog of non-performers. Why are Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong not inducted? Ashford & Simpson?

Just CLICK on THIS LINK and see this incredible list of SONGS and CHARTING HITS written by DAVID PORTER and ISAAC HAYES !!! David should DEFINITELY be INDUCTED and ISAAC should go into the Clyde McPhatter Club with a SECOND INDUCTION as a SONGWRITER !!

Don't get me wrong, Bill. I totally agree with you that Porter should be inducted. Not necessarily alongside a second induction of Hayes, but Porter belongs there. But so do Whitfield & Strong, Ashford & Simpson, even Bacharach & David. Isn't it time again for an induction of multiple songwriters, like in 2010?

Posted by The_Claw on Friday, 10/23/2015 @ 14:19pm

I totally agree about all of them being inducted. The RRHOF is REALLY falling down on it's job !!!
If one goes by the timeline (which they rarely DO), All of these writers should've gone in before Gamble and Huff !!

A key songwriter at Stax Records. He should be inducted as a Non-Performer (Ahmet Ertegun Award).
