“Alaskan Express”, my version of Crosby, Stills and Nash’s “Marrakesh Express”

Looking at the world through the sunshine in your eyes
Traveling the boat through foggy Alaskan skies
Whales and bears and eagles call
American flags wall to wall
Canadian ladies eight-foot tall in red

Sweeping thoughts from the corners of my brain
Had to get away from the rain
Hope the days that push ahead
Take us back to where they’ve led
Listen to what’s been said to you

Don’t you know we’re riding on the Alaskan Express
Don’t you know we’re riding on the Alaskan Express
They’re taking me to Alaska
All aboard the boat, all aboard the boat

I’ve been saving my money just to take you there
I smell the salmon in your hair

Take the boat from Ketchikan going north
Blowing smoke from propellers going forth
Sea winds hang in the air
Ravens flying in the square
Native clothes we can wear at home
Well, let us hear you now

Don’t you know we’re riding on the Alaskan Express
Don’t you know we’re riding on the Alaskan Express
They’re taking me to Alaska

Don’t you know we’re riding on the Alaskan Express
Don’t you know we’re riding on the Alaskan Express
They’re taking me to Alaska
All aboard the boat, all aboard the boat
All aboard

In the entire CSN catalog there are only two occurrences where the three songwriters are represented in the correct order according to album track sequence. The first was on their debut album from 1969, track 3-5:

Guinevere (David Crosby)
You Don't Have To Cry (Stephen Stills)
Pre-Road Downs (Graham Nash)

The other time this happened was on their 1977 "CSN" album, tracks 1-3:

Shadow Captain (David Crosby/Craig Doerge)
See The Changes (Stephen Stills)
Carried Away (Graham Nash)

I was remiss in my previous post. On "After The Storm" the group's final album for Atlantic Records released in 1994, there are two instances where the three songwriters are represented in the correct order. Tracks 5-7:

Til It Shines (David Crosby)
It Won't Go Away (Stephen Stills)
These Empty Days (Graham Nash)

And Tracks 9-11:

Street to Lean On (David Crosby)
Bad Boyz (Stephen Stills)
After The Storm (Graham Nash)

It's been said before, but it's time to say it again. Rest in Peace David Crosby, 1941-2023.

Thought I had already mentioned this, but I saw CSN at Riverbend back in the early 90s. This was when Riverbend had not built their big amphitheaters yet. They played all their hits and for their encore, because he was in town for a show the next night, Neil Young came out and sang 'Ohio' with them. Man, that was a scene.

RIP, Dave.
