It could be said that every jazz guitarist that emerged from 1940-1965 sounded like Charlie Christian. He was the one who elevated the electric guitar as a main instrument along with the saxophone and the trumpet in jazz and pop.

Christian played his instrument with the fluidity and swing of a saxophonist and his technique established a solo style that was carried by later blues and rock n' roll guitarists. His impact on later jazz guitarists like Wes Montgomery and George Benson is evident even today.

The Hall listed Charlie Christian as a Performer in their website.

They should probably fix that.

They still have him listed as a performer, and now Wikipedia has it updated with him as a performer. That can't be right, can it?

I was playing this quiz (http://www.sporcle.com/games/g/rockrollHOFinductees), and he was added recently. If you read the comments, the creator of the quiz said they e-mailed the hall to get the correct answer.

The Rock Hall and Wikipedia are both wrong on this one. Charlie Christian was inducted as an Early Influence.

"There were also awards for the pre-rock pioneers Ma Rainey, Louis Armstrong and Charlie Christian."
