No other country musician was, is, or will ever be as musically progressive as Bob Wills. A surface-level look might lead one to peg him as just another country & western star, but his musical style is so much vaster than that. Having listened to some of his stuff earlier today, I can vouch that his material is a swell melting pot of so many styles: swing, honky-tonk, ragtime, blues, tradtional country & western, New Orleans jazz, stride piano, etc.

Those who profess to love classic country, jazz, or just great music in general ought to do themselves a favor and check out some Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. ASV/Living Era's The King of Western Swing is a fine single-disc retrospective (25 tracks in total) that covers the prime period of 1935-1945. Boot Heel Drag: The MGM Years is a solid 2-disc set of what they performed in the 1947-1954 timeframe. Those who want a little of every era should invest in Rhino's Anthology: 1935-1973 (Another 2-disc set). Now hop to it!

The Texas Playboys have been removed from the rock hall website for some reason!

Inductees into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame are just names on paper and a museum. You don't have room for words, names, letters? What's going on here? You are going to take them out of the hall of fame because you don't have signatures from them to put on a plaque? Seriously? Is this just a glitch on the site, like they had a few years ago?

There are currently five inductees from the class of 99 who are still alive.

It's been fixed. They are all still inductees and all showing on the rock hall site.
