He belongs in the Rock Hall. Marvelous soul singer with a unique style. He could make any song his own. He was only 32 when he died. He was at his peak but cut short when he died in a car accident crossing a bridge over the Neuse River in 1970. 50 years ago, I don't think that stretch of road was part of I-95 yet.

So his catalog isn't huge - cut short by that tragic auto accident - but the quality of his recordings should take precedence over the quantity. Like it has with Otis Redding and Buddy Holly.

Billy Stewart's recording of the Gershwin classic 'Summertime' alone should be worth induction into this institution.
His number of other cross-over hits, not to mention his unique style, and the fact that he can easily be considered a pioneering member of what's now known as R&B/Soul should also make him more than eligible for this honor.

This singer/song writer, musician, producer and Chess Records Legend should not be looked over any longer.
All who read this, do yourself a favor and re-listen to his body of work.
You're guaranteed not to be disappointed!

RIP Billy,
Here's wishing it's 'Summertime' for you everyday...

Wow, Billy Stewart, is an extraordinary talent, he should have been put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before many of the artists that are in there now: Janet Jackson, Cheap Trick, Alice Cooper, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Earl Palmer, Ringo Starr, etc... This man was a force of talent and a major performer. Don't worry Billy, your fans remember your incredible music, you, and your voice will live on forever. Rock solid! A true original, not a fabricator!
