8 comments so far (post your own) I would vote for 10,000 Maniacs RRHOF.They were totally an original group & Natalie Merchant's voice is just wonderful. She can really announciate her words beautifully.Reminds me of Cyndi Lauper that way. Posted by KING on Wednesday, 01/29/2014 @ 14:55pm |
Natalie Merchant one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Pure and simple. 10,000 Maniacs musical style was unique and transcends time or place. Influential in Merchant as a front woman. You start seeing women as lead singers after. In My Tribe, The Wishing Chair, MTV Unplugged should put 10,000 Maniacs in RRHOF. They really deserve the honor. I think The Beatles would have sounded like 10,000 Maniacs if they continued playing. KING Posted by KING on Saturday, 05/23/2015 @ 02:01am |

Based on who is in the R&R HOF, 10,000 Maniacs should be in as well. Natalie Merchants's amazing original voice and her incredible stage presence combined with Robert Buck's distinctive guitar made then one of the best overall bands of the 80s-90s. They never wrote a love song, their songs were smart, and dealt with such issues as Poverty, Alcohol abuse, the elderly, child abuse, literacy, etc. Steve Gustafson's bass, Dennid Drew's keyboards & Jerry Augustyniak's drums rounded out a great lineup and great live band, whether you saw them at The Juke Box Cafe or Madison Square Garden. After Natalie went solo, Mary Ramsey added her great voice and viola to the mix and they continue to put out great music and live shows today. Posted by Mike on Wednesday, 08/4/2021 @ 06:54am |
Mike has articulated what an outstanding band the 10,000 Maniacs is. With profound and insightful lyrics, superb musical artistry and sublime singing by both Natalie Merchant and Mary Ramsey, the band has maintained this remarkable level of excellence for forty years. That truly is a great accomplishment. Posted by Ken on Saturday, 11/6/2021 @ 12:17pm |
If No Doubt goes in, as they should, then 10k should be in. These journeyman groups need their due, playing night after night, for decades. And of course Natalie Merchant is timeless. Posted by Stephen Guinee on Sunday, 11/21/2021 @ 23:46pm |
The only way for this band to get inducted is for Natalie Merchant's being attached to it (i.e. Small Faces/Faces, Rufus/Chaka Khan, Joy Division/New Order) because the band's biggest commercial high point was during the Natalie years. Even after she left the band, Natalie continued that wave of commercial success throughout the '90s and was part of the Lilith Fair crowd. So, it would be like this: 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant. I don't care how mad Mary Ramsey would get about this. Posted by Elle Dee on Wednesday, 07/19/2023 @ 19:21pm |
