XTC should have been in RRHOF in 2010. Crafted humorous & intelligent songs that resonate with the listener.FAVS include Dear God,Senses Working Overtime,The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead.

Two thumbs up XTC RRHOF!!! KING

Agree William on XTC. Intelligent lyrics & make the listener think which is rare nowadays. Just well crafted songs. XTC has enough loyal fans that they will make noise to boost XTC into the RRHOF where they belong. Great band XTC!!! KING

"Skylarking" and "Oranges And Lemons" are great albums. Andy Partridge is a brilliant songwriter; has anyone also heard of The Dukes Of Stratosfear?

I stand corrected; I had meant to say, The Dukes Of Stratosphear.

This month's issue of PROG magazine features an interview with Andy Partridge, co-founder and major songwriter for XTC.

Once The Moody Blues, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Duran Duran and Sade have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, I will place my support behind: Procol Harum, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, Kansas and of course, XTC.

My two favorite albums by XTC are: "Skylarking" and "Oranges And Lemons."

After The Beatles, only one rock band got better and better with each album, and that band was XTC. Their songwriting, lyrics, arrangements, and recording were not only sterling, but in time, shown to be massively influential. I've long since lost respect for the Hall of Fame, and the exclusion of XTC is one big reason.

There is a new documentary out about XTC, called “This Is Pop,” airing on Showtime this month. Check your local listings.

In case you haven’t seen it, XTC’s documentary, “This Is Pop” is oftentimes actually quite hilarious. I would argue that not unlike XTC, Duran Duran and Rush have also become better with each consecutive album, as well. Yesterday, I had purchased “Nonsuch” and “Chips From The Chocolate Fireball: An Anthology” which had disappeared many years before. There is also a new version of “Black Sea” available, which I did not purchase yesterday, but may in the not too distant future.

In any event, I have been listening to some of the songs on “Nonsuch” lately. I am also very interested in finding a copy of XTC’s final studio efforts: “Apple Venus Volume 1” and “Wasp Star/Apple Venus Volume 2.”

If those albums happen to impress me as much as their predecessors, then expect XTC to appear somewhere in the top 20 of my favorite prog bands.

XTC also appears to be influenced by The Moody Blues, as well.

Thus far, I would argue that Skylarking (1986) is definitely XTC’s greatest recording, followed closely by Nonsuch (1992) Oranges & Lemons (1989) and Chips From The Chocolate Fireball: An Anthology (1987). I have also listened to Apple Venus Volume 1 (1999), but have not been able to deliver a definitive opinion about it, at the present time, I would give it 4 stars. I have not yet listened to Wasp Star/Apple Venus: Volume 2 (2000) however.

1. Skylarking (1986) *****
2. Nonsuch (1992) *****
3. Oranges & Lemons (1989) *****
4. Chips From The Chocolate Fireball: An Anthology (1987) *****
5. Apple Venus Volume 1 (1999) ****

XTC is one of the greatest bands of all time with an over 20 year body of work. They should get in within the next decade but may be too under the radar.

Magical blend of superb songwriting craft and catchy guitar riffs. XTC is a band I'd love to see inducted but their Englishness probably doesn't help the cause. I'm not sure American audiences understand what this band was about.

Two years on and XTC has still never even been nominated. It's a shame.

Wasn't XTC a one-hit wonder group? Their one hit was "Dear God."

Posted by Brian Schonour on Wednesday, 10/13/2021 @ 17:56pm

Brian, XTC was not a one-hit wonder group. Besides Dear God, they also had a hit with The Mayor of Simpleton.

Hardly a band deserves as much to be in like XTC do. They inspired so many musicians, their entire output is of highest quality.
