What do these four bands have in common?

The Eagles
Pink Floyd
The Rolling Stones
Yes

The founding members who named the bands left the bands. Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd in 1968 and eventually died in 2006. Brian Jones left the Stones in June 1969 and drowned in his swimming pool a month later. Peter Banks left Yes in 1970 and died earlier this year. Which brings us to Bernie Leadon who left The Eagles in December 1975 and hasn't died yet.

The Eagles - Greatest band ever. Before they retire or call it quits, would like to see "A One Night Only Show" with the current members of the group including Bernie and guest appearances by Randy Meisner and "Fingers" Felder - jeez talk about a night to remember.

02. Glenn Frey (1971-1980; 1994-Present: vocals, guitar, keyboard, harmonica)
03. Randy Meisner (1971-1977: vocals, bass, guitar, guitarrón; Poco)
04. Bernie Leadon (1971-1975: vocals, guitar, banjo, pedal steel, mandolin; The Flying Burrito Brothers)

07. Timothy B. Schmit (1977-1980; 1994-Present: vocals, bass, guitar; Poco)

The 2015 Kennedy Center Honorees

The Eagles

01. Don Henley (1971-1980; 1994-Present: vocals, drums, percussion, guitar)
02. Glenn Frey (1971-1980; 1994-Present: vocals, guitar, keyboard, harmonica)
03. Joe Walsh (1975-1980; 1994-Present: vocals, guitar, keyboard; The James Gang)
04. Timothy B. Schmit (1977-1980; 1994-Present: vocals, bass, guitar; Poco)

So now we learn that not only can dead members of a band not be honored (see Led Zeppelin), but also former members who are still alive cannot be honored either. This is worse than the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I hope Chicago never gets the Kennedy Center Honor.

The Eagles weren't the first to do country rock. Johnny Cash had them beaten by about 20 years. I'm very surprised that they were a first ballot inductee. They released some good material, but also a fair amount of AM radio bubblegum.

Didn't realize The Eagles had to postpone their Kennedy Center Honors award until 2016 due to Glenn Frey's health problems. Hope everything's okay with Frey and that's very gracious of the Kennedy Center to postpone the award. It's better for all the Eagles to be present, especially when Frey was a critical founding member of one of the best American rock bands of the 1970s.

The Eagles had to postpone their Kennedy Center Honors award until December 2016 due to Glenn Frey's health problems. The Kennedy Center has a rule about only honoring living entertainers. I wonder if they will bend the rules a little on this one since The Eagles were already announced as honorees before Glenn Frey's death.

I was wondering the same thing--though earlier I was wondering if they would include Randy Meisner, Donald Felder and Bernie Leadon(who arguably contributed as much as the current members) in the honors.

Now, that doesn't seem important. Rest in Peace Glenn Frey, 1948-2016.

RIP Glenn Frey, another major death in the Rock music world in just the first few weeks of 2016. He was a major part of The Eagles' success and helped write many of their great songs.

I am very shocked and saddened to hear about the recent passing of Glen Frey. I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to his family and friends. I suppose that this means that The Eagles are now finished. My favorite album by The Eagles is "Hotel California."

My late supervisor at work was a huge fan of The Eagles. He had passed away over a year ago. :-(

The Eagles get a Special Collectors Edition of Rolling Stone Magazine.

No word yet from the Kennedy Center, on whether or not Glenn Frey will still be considered as an honoree with the Eagles since they only honour the living. Maybe they will make an exception this time since the announcement of the honor was made before Glenn Frey died. It would be their first. Or maybe the Eagles will turn down the honor completely.

FRL, read in recent story on Glenn Frey (quoting him) that name of band is 'Eagles'. There is no 'the', according to the co-founder of band.

Eagles are Top 10 band of all time considering their vocal sound scapes, guitar work, songwriting etc. I think Eagles are similar to The Beatles that they rode off into the sunset at the top of their game. Eagles would return later in 1994-1995 with When Hell Freezes Over. I always enjoyed After The Thrill Is Gone which features Don Henley & Glenn Frey alternating vocals. Hotel California stands the test of time. Say for some reason Eagles had never been inducted into the RRHOF. With Glenn Frey's passing, they would probably be on this ballot. I'm curious where the FRL regulars would rank Eagles in the pantheon of legendary rock groups and in the RRHOF pyramid. KING

The Eagles overtake Michael Jackson's Thriller for best-selling album of all time

Passing Michael Jackson, the Eagles now have the best-selling album of all time. And they're still terrible.

Through sheer greed and avarice, the Eagles have brought on the long, slow decline of rock and roll as an art form.

Roy?????

Through sheer greed and avarice, the Eagles have brought on the long, slow decline of rock and roll as an art form.

Look at what the music industry was doing in the 70s and 80s. Disco was being pushed to bring an end to rock and roll. They pushed too hard and it blew up in their faces and they scrambled with trying to push other styles music. Remember record sales went down in the 80s significantly and the industry was pushing new wave, metal, punk and hip hop and rap and pop.

Roy, you've been smoking some bad stuff. Eagles are a GREAT band, one of the best to come out of the US.

That's why they have sold a bajillion records...cause they suck.

Posted by Paul in KY on Wednesday, 08/22/2018 @ 14:52pm

Would also like to mention to FRL that it is amply documented in comments/articles from Glen Frey & others in band that the name is 'Eagles'. Not 'The Eagles'.

Please fix the incorrect band name.

Posted by Paul in KY on Wednesday, 08/22/2018 @ 14:54pm

Roy is not calling the Eagles a “terrible” band, it’s the guy who wrote the article and made a clickbait headline.
