14 comments so far (post your own)I'd say NO to John Mayer.Has gruff voice & really has blazed no new territory. Your Body Is A Wonderland pretty good song. Too many great guitarists in rock & metal before you get to John Mayer. If he stays bluesy, then he might get some nomination in 2030. KING Posted by KING on Friday, 02/14/2014 @ 00:16am |
Not a big fan of his personality and antics, but his musical talent and impact is undeniable. I'd definitely recommend him for the hall. Posted by NixtonV on Saturday, 07/12/2014 @ 18:20pm |
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! He is possibly one of the worst big guitarists I have ever heard. Also he can't play lead guitar. I would vomit if he was to be inducted Posted by Karl Singleton on Saturday, 07/26/2014 @ 09:36am |
Saw him play with most surviving members of the Grateful Dead at Bonnaroo. I was never a fan of Mayer's music. I know for sure he is a very talented guitarist, and he knows the true feeling of rock and roll. That being said, I have always filed him under my category 'Soccer-mom pop' as that's what it sounds like to me. But hey, whatever makes him money, I guess, right? He did very well on-stage and I never would have thought him, Bob Weir and Donna Godchaux would have such a chemistry on-stage. Posted by Jason Voigt on Wednesday, 06/15/2016 @ 21:39pm |
All of the negative comments are based on biased opinions clearly because it obvious what his influnences are and every famous muscician that he ha played with as said he ha the blue or that he is the master of guitar and at 40 I think he is one of the most fenominal guitar players out there and I have never heard a bad guitar performance from him and he had surgery on his vocal chords way back and that ha effected his singing a little but he will be a legend and if you follow him on social media or just in general watch his interviews and guitar Instagram videos he has some crazy good guitar techniques and he has worked on becoming a better person he ha had a rough patch in the past but he is impulsive and when he was in his 20's made a song called my stupid mouth so he is aware that he isn't the best at speaking his mind but he truly isn't a bad guy. John Mayer qualifies in all categories. Multiple #1 records, not only innovative but is constantly re-inventing himself, musicianship, songwriting, and - let's face it - mega success. Deserving with a capital D. Posted by Vinnie on Monday, 10/22/2018 @ 15:00pm |
He will absolutely be inducted in the Hall of Fame. He has made numerous albums that have done well in the charts and have been critically acclaimed. He's well loved by the fans, and he's quite a talented guitarist and singer Posted by Shane on Wednesday, 02/17/2021 @ 12:50pm |
Definitely. JMs blues/rock is timeless. He's a true singer/ /songwriter/musician . He plays and tours for the love of music. He's not writing pop hits, he doesn't use any software instruments ever. He's probably one of the last guitar legends we'll ever see. Which is a bummer. It's funny how these old hater comments are from a time before Ed sheeran, that guys is an uneducated pop machine sellout. John Mayor is a genuinely , amazing artist. They'll probably just end the RRHOF after his induction, as sad as that will be it would be doing the genre and every act in the Hall justice. Posted by Waxed Axel on Wednesday, 05/5/2021 @ 07:17am |
Everyone hating on him- you all are losers. Whether you like him or not, he's obviously made a big impact if you cared enough to post comments on his FRL page. He has seven #1 hits and eighteen top 10s. He had tens millions of fans before he said all that stuff (still has millions). He is a great blues guitarists, and if you say he isn't, you're under educated and I blame your parents. So regardless of what you think of him, he is highly influential and innovative. Just listen to records from the past 10 years. Today's music has gotten a lot softer, which he made popular. John Legend, Shawn Mendes, Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Adele, Taylor Swift, Charlie Puth, I could go on. JM is awesome and totally deserves to be inducted. No way he doesn't get in at this point. Tons of hit songs, explored a variety of guitar-based styles at this point while still having commercial success, and he is THE guitar hero for a lot of millennials. He may be a douche but his influence and talent are on clear display 20 years later. Posted by Carl on Sunday, 04/3/2022 @ 03:45am |
Even though the rock and roll hall of fame let in many that can only play sheet music.. I would have to say john is an guarantee. Also in 2022 John has really step up his game!!! God bless John Posted by Ronald smith on Sunday, 07/10/2022 @ 01:38am |
Looking across his various albums, he's pretty much done everything. Neon (from his debut album) is considered by many guitarists to be the single hardest acoustic guitar song to play. When he was churning out pop hits, he veered and formed the John Mayer Trio, a pure blues power trio, which gave us both the outstanding Who Did You Think I Was and the oft-covered Gravity (later released on his third album). He has done excellent and well-regarded covers of guitar masters like Hendrix and SRV, and Eric Clapton called him a "master guitarist" and performed with him. He has worked across musical spectrums, recording with artists ranging from Common to Fall Out Boy, from Alicia Keys to Taylor Swift, from Frank Ocean to Katy Perry, and his song Stitched Up was the absolute stand out on Herbie Hancock's album. He reinvented himself again doing Americana, and recorded with Ryan Adams, and is now touring with Bob Weir and channeling Jerry Garcia in Dead and Co. Sure, he's a bit derivative in his guitar styles - but so was Clapton! He's a better recording artist than 1/2 the current members of Rock Hall and should go in first ballot.
