Seems like a perfect and overdue fit for the Hall's ambiguous Musical Excellence category. Seems to me that that would be a tailor made catch-all for both his recording artist and producer careers, both of which deserve acknowledgement.

I agree with you DarinRG. He is a good fit for the "Award for Musical Excellence" since he is both a performer and non-performer and a good fit for artists the same as Eno.

I cannot believe Eno is not in. Changed the course of rock music.

We need to see Joe Cocker Get in

Since the Hall is being more prog-friendly than they were before, I could see Brian Eno inducted with Roxy Music. But we need Jethro Tull, ELP, and Procol Harum first in order to make this happen.

I mean, he's technically now "in" with Roxy Music, he just needs to get in as either a producer or solo artist. Solo artist and producer are probably unlikely until Todd Rundgren gets in there though.

Kind of odd that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems to be stagnating in terms of non-performer (Ahmet Ertegun Award) inductees given the abundance of top-end candidates such as Eno readily available for induction (after 2014, they only inducted Bert Berns in 2016).

Brian Eno both as a performer and producer is way more influential than Rush. But I am glad he at least got in with Roxy Music. He should get in as a 3 time inductee.

Many apologies but I have worked 7 consecutive days prior to today and yes, I am heading to work today also.

David,

“Brian Eno both as a performer and producer is way more influential than Rush. But I am glad he at least got in with Roxy Music. He should get in as a 3 time inductee.”

Really? Are you absolutely sure about that?

I am sorry, but I disagree strongly.

Any member of the “holy trinity” of prog (Rush, Yes and The Moody Blues) has been much more influential than almost any other artists, other than perhaps The Beatles. The number of artists who had been influenced by Rush alone is almost incalculable. Rush had influenced numerous prog, prog Metal, Classic Rock, heavy metal, alternative, grunge, rap, hip hop, country, jazz, singer/songwriters and classical artists to name, but a few. And the artists who they may, or may not have influenced directly, or indirectly had been influenced by either Yes, or The Moody Blues.

By the way, even a cursory examination of the internet would inform you that Roxy Music is also a prog band. Art rock is synonymous with prog in most instances. If you do not believe me, then check out Prog Archives, Wikipedia, The Gibraltar Encyclopedia Of Progressive Rock, etc.

Regarding Brian Eno,

Yes, he should have been inducted with Roxy Music.

I agree that Brian Eno deserves to receive the Musical Excellence award, for his production work.

However, his solo work is somewhat of an iffy case outside of perhaps “Another Green World” and “Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy” and his ambient work. In my honest opinion however, “No Pussyfooting” is atrocious.

He has about a ten to fifteen year run of classic albums that are well regarded critically. Not just his ambient stuff but in the pop realm too. He is integral to the development of rock and roll in to the modern era in all of his work. Also according to your really lose definition of prog which appears to just mean music you'll listen to he fits the bill as much of his stuff is in the art rock genre.

Well this is out of date, he's in now as a member of roxy music

He'll get in (again) via the Musical Excellence award. He is widely respected and influential in the industry. His body of producer work with some of the industry's biggest artists and some of 'their' best LP's is hard to ignore. Personally, those first two Roxy albums are gems and groundbreaking. Another Green World one of the best solo works and his 801 band some of my personal favorites. With Kraftwerk finally going in with Joy Division almost in, he'll follow soon.

His solo career should also be awarded. He is the godfather of new wave music with his early art rock albums. Then he is pioneer in ambient music and has huge influence on electronic artists. He is also one of the most important producer in popular music history. I think it is crime that his solo career has not been inducted in the rock Hall.
